Racing Incident Report

MADE IN HONGKONG was withdrawn on 29.1.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore fetlock). Before being allowed to race again, MADE IN HONGKONG will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. PACIFIC ALLIANCE and WONG'S SUCCESS were slow to begin. Shortly after the start, BARRACUDA got its head on the side, commenced to hang in, then near the 1500 Metres jumped a shadow on the track and became unbalanced. Making the first turn, PACIFIC ALLIANCE hung out and shifted ground. This caused inconvenience to SEA TREASURE which was carried wider. Near the 1200 Metres, PACIFIC ALLIANCE was steadied when close to the heels of WONG'S SUCCESS. After this, PACIFIC ALLIANCE continued to hang out and proved difficult to ride. Apprentice H W Lai (WONG'S SUCCESS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 450 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of SEA TREASURE, causing that horse to be checked and lose its rightful running. Apprentice Lai was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Wednesday 21 February 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday 7 February 2007. The performance of PURPLE GOLD, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, PURPLE GOLD will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. B Prebble (WONDERFUL BLESSING) said tonight the horse was more stirred up than usual in the Parade Ring and behind the barriers. He said as a result WONDERFUL BLESSING sweated up quite noticeably prior to the start, then after beginning well immediately travelled into the lead, however, did not relax until after entering the Back Straight. He said he felt WONDERFUL BLESSING had travelled too keenly in the early stages and as a consequence the horse was not able to finish the race off. He did say when WONDERFUL BLESSING has performed well, it has relaxed in its races. WONDERFUL BLESSING was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of WONDERFUL BLESSING after the race did not show any significant findings. MAGIC TOUCH and WONG'S SUCCESS were sent for sampling.
