Racing Incident Report

CHAMP DRAGON was withdrawn on 7.4.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (fever) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter TRAVEL LEADER (E Saint-Martin). Before being allowed to race again, CHAMP DRAGON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When the gates opened, SIXTY SECONDS bounded in the air, shifted in and bumped EVER KING, resulting in both horses losing ground. Approaching the 800 Metres, SOUTH BREEZE got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of TRAVEL LEADER. At the 800 Metres, EVER KING was steadied when awkwardly placed between SOUTH BREEZE and FANTASTIC WIN. Making the Home Turn, CHARMING MONKEYS, which had been travelling wide and without cover, hung out and ran off and as a consequence finished distanced. CHARMING MONKEYS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, CHARMING MONKEYS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. The performance of CHARMING MONKEYS was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CHARMING MONKEYS will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. G Mossé (SOUTH BREEZE) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that on straightening he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of EVER KING, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. BRIGHT AND GAY, which was following, was steadied in consequence. G Mossé was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 23 April 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Longchamp racemeeting next Sunday 15 April 2007. In addition, G Mossé was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. At the entrance to the Straight, TRAVEL LEADER was steadied off the heels of SINOSPIEL, then near the 300 Metres raced tight between SINOSPIEL and SUPER IDEAL. Near the 100 Metres, SINOSPIEL was steadied when TRAVEL LEADER shifted in. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied the riding of Apprentice C W Wong (EVER KING), 5th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse's finishing position, he nonetheless was reminded of his responsibilities to ensure he rides his mounts out at least hands and heels right to the winning post where circumstances permit. B Prebble (ROCKET POWER) said the intention had been to ride the horse outside the leader if possible. He said ROCKET POWER began awkwardly, he then went forward with ARISTOCRACY which had drawn to his inside and which he anticipated would also go forward. He said ROCKET POWER did not show natural speed and in his opinion he would have been required to make some use of the horse to obtain a forward position, he therefore took it to a position behind ARISTOCRACY with cover, however, further back than intended. He said throughout the race ROCKET POWER did not travel well and hung out. ROCKET POWER, SUPER IDEAL and BRIGHT AND GAY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ROCKET POWER, SUPER IDEAL and BRIGHT AND GAY after the race did not show any significant findings. ELFHELM and SOUTH BREEZE were sent for sampling.
