Racing Incident Report

MY PRIDE was slow to begin, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of MARVELLOUS and lost further ground. MULTI KING made the turn at the 1000 Metres awkwardly and hung out. Near the 800 Metres, BRAVO BRAVO was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of BUDDIES SPIRIT which shifted in. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, BUDDIES SPIRIT was checked to avoid the heels of STEEL NERVES which itself lost ground when close to the heels of NEW TRIUMPH which got its head on the side and lost ground when being steadied away from the heels of LIBERAL'S RIDE. BRAVO BRAVO, which was following BUDDIES SPIRIT, lost ground in consequence. When questioned, E Saint-Martin (BRAVO BRAVO), which was having its first race start tonight, said he was instructed to allow the horse to travel where it was comfortable. He said just prior to the start being effected BRAVO BRAVO became a little fractious, lifted its front feet off the ground as the gates opened and consequently lost ground. He said after this he shifted BRAVO BRAVO to the fence, however, the horse became unbalanced and shifted away from the rail making the first turn. He said BRAVO BRAVO continued to hang out in the Back Straight and was inconvenienced on two occasions. He said because of the manner in which BRAVO BRAVO was racing he was not able to prevent BUDDIES SPIRIT shifting to a position in front of him at the 800 Metres. He said in the Home Straight he rode BRAVO BRAVO along in the early stages and used the whip at the 250 Metres, however, the horse did not initially respond, he therefore again rode along hands and heels before using the whip again after the 200 Metres when BRAVO BRAVO responded strongly and closed the race off nicely. E Saint-Martin was told his explanation would be reported. MY PRIDE and LIBERAL'S RIDE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MY PRIDE after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, LIBERAL'S RIDE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had bled from both nostrils. NEW TRIUMPH and SUPER GOAL MASTER were sent for sampling.
