Racing Incident Report

At declaration time, Apprentice K L Chui was declared as the rider of both TACTIC KING and WONG’S SUCCESS. It was established that Apprentice Chui had a firm commitment to ride TACTIC KING. As such, the Stewards permitted Apprentice H W Lai to be substituted as the rider of WONG’S SUCCESS. For this declaration error, Apprentice Chui was fined $2,000. TACTIC KING began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, WONG'S SUCCESS was steadied when crowded for room between TACTIC KING and EVERGREEN. In the early stages, TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND was taken across behind runners. An inquiry into the reason for EYE WITNESS being checked at the 1500 Metres was adjourned until the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday 6 June 2007. When EYE WITNESS checked, TOP HONOR, which was following, was checked severely to avoid that horse and in turn caused inconvenience to TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND. At the 600 Metres, MAN IN THE MIRROR was steadied when crowded for room between TOP HONOR and WONG'S SUCCESS which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in. Some inconvenience was caused to TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND which was racing on the inside of TOP HONOR. In the early part of the Straight, WIN PRACTITIONER hung in, then near the 200 Metres hung out. For a considerable distance approaching the 200 Metres, TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND was held up and unable to obtain clear running, then near the 100 Metres was inconvenienced when racing tight inside MAVERICK which shifted ground. At the 200 Metres, MAVERICK was bumped by TOP HONOR which shifted in. Throughout the race, JUBILOSO travelled wide and without cover. C K Tong (WIN PRACTITIONER) said he had been instructed to have the horse in 3rd or 4th position if possible with cover. He said WIN PRACTITIONER did not begin well, he then rode his mount along in an endeavour to carry out the instructions he had been issued, however, from a wide barrier he was not able to obtain cover. C K Tong did say four starts prior to today WIN PRACTITIONER had been ridden in a forward position and had been successful. Apprentice H W Lai (WONG'S SUCCESS) explained his mount was unbalanced in its action in the middle stages and near the 600 Metres shifted in and bumped MAN IN THE MIRROR. He said after this WONG'S SUCCESS continued to be unbalanced in its action and was most disappointing. When questioned regarding the poor performance of TOP HONOR, O Doleuze said after his mount received interference near the 1500 Metres, it did not travel comfortably at any stage. WONG'S SUCCESS was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. TOP HONOR and MAN IN THE MIRROR were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WONG'S SUCCESS, TOP HONOR and MAN IN THE MIRROR after the race did not show any significant findings. SOUTH BREEZE and WIN PRACTITIONER were sent for sampling. The Stewards questioned D Nikolic regarding his riding of MAN IN THE MIRROR. After taking some evidence, the matter was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 4 June 2007)
MAN IN THE MIRROR was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. MAN IN THE MIRROR was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer J Size this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have an ulcer to the right hand inside corner of the mouth.
