After the race, Apprentice E C W Wong stated that his mount did not travel at any stage of the event and failed to finish the race off. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea.

9 4 HIGH RISE POWER (H353) C L Chau (-2) Making the first turn, HIGH RISE POWER, which was racing keenly, was steadied to avoid JOYFUL LIFE (K C Leung) which shifted in when not quite clear. K C Leung was reprimanded. As a result, HIGH RISE POWER shifted in and was corrected by its rider C L Chau. After the event, C L Chau reported that his mount, after racing keenly in the early stages, came under pressure in the middle stages and failed to run on in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea.

After the event, L Hewitson reported that, in his opinion, the horse would derive benefit from tonight’s first up performance. Trainer K W Lui concurred with the views offered by Jockey Hewitson. 4 4 RUNNING AHEAD (G313) C L Chau (-2) From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 300 Metres was eased to avoid RIGHT HONOURABLE when that runner shifted out slightly. For some distance after the 200 Metres RUNNING AHEAD (C L Chau) and RIGHT HONOURABLE (B Thompson) made contact as they contested a position to the inside of GOLDEN FAIRY which shifted in slightly. As a result, RUNNING AHEAD became unbalanced as it attempted to maintain its position to the inside of GOLDEN FAIRY whilst continuing to make contact with RIGHT HONOURABLE. Both C L Chau and B Thompson were advised in similar circumstances to exercise more care.
6 5 RELIABLE PROFIT (G462) H Bowman Approaching and passing the winning post was steadied when crowded between PRECISION GOAL and RUNNING AHEAD (C L Chau) which lay in and away from NINJA DERBY. C L Chau was advised to exercise more care. As a result, RELIABLE PROFIT could not be ridden out fully to the end of the race. He said as a result FORTUNE WARRIOR gave ground in the Home Straight. Trainer P C Ng stated that FORTUNE WARRIOR was disadvantaged by drawing the outside barrier and having to be ridden in the early stages to lead. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FORTUNE WARRIOR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Sent for sampling post-race.

Near the 150 Metres was checked when crowded between I CAN (A Atzeni) which, after being taken in by COMET SPLENDIDO, shifted in and away from that runner and HAMERON (L Ferraris) which shifted to the outside of GALVANIC. Both A Atzeni and L Ferraris were reprimanded. After the event, K C Leung reported that his mount would derive benefit from tonight’s performance. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
11 3 LOVERO (H451) Y L Chung (-3) After the event, Y L Chung stated that his mount travelled comfortably in the run but gave ground noticeably in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of LOVERO, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LOVERO will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
1 4 HELENE WARRIOR (J207) H Bowman After the event, H Bowman stated that it was not the intention to lead the event. He said after taking up a forward position in the early stages HELENE WARRIOR raced keenly and as a result set a pace in the middle stages inside of standard time which was not his intention. 2 5 SAMARKAND (H070) K Teetan In the early stages got its head up when being shifted across behind GALVANIC to obtain cover. After the 300 Metres became held up for clear running behind HELENE WARRIOR and near the 250 Metres shifted to the outside of HELENE WARRIOR to obtain clear running and made contact with GALVANIC. After the event, A Atzeni stated that from a wide barrier his instructions were to find a position with cover if possible. He said as a result in the early stages he elected to shift across behind ROMANTIC LAOS to comply with his instructions.

2 1 REWARD SMILE (H256) H Bowman From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. When questioned regarding his riding, H Bowman stated that from a wide barrier he allowed his mount to settle towards the rear of the field as instructed. He also stated that he was instructed to endeavour to take inside runs towards the rail if possible. He added making the Home Turn when positioned behind RIGHTEOUS ARION he elected to improve to that runner’s inside when RIGHTEOUS ARION shifted out after the 300 Metres. He said soon after when placed under pressure REWARD SMILE responded well to his riding and as a result he was required to make a quick decision to find clear running which he attempted to obtain to the inside of NEVER TOO SOON. He said when NEVER TOO SOON shifted in, he was then obliged to steady to avoid that runner’s heels and shift to the outside where REWARD SMILE obtained clear running approaching the 150 Metres. 8 2 SUGAR SUGAR (G016) E C W Wong (-7) Bumped at the start. K De Melo (NEVER TOO SOON) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 200 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of SUGAR SUGAR, resulting in SUGAR SUGAR having to be checked to avoid the heels of NEVER TOO SOON. K De Melo was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Wednesday, 25 September 2024 at Happy Valley. In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his excellent race riding record.
