Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, the Veterinary Surgeon noted UNITY had blood in
its mouth. The horse was examined and the Veterinary Surgeon said it was suitable
to race. EQUUS ZEPHYRUS and CARRY-ON DREAMBOAT were slowly away.
EVERWELL FOREVER left the gates awkwardly and threw its head about.
Running to the 800 Metres, GLORIOUS WINNER became unbalanced and threw
its head up when being steadied from an awkward spot between HANDSOME
MAN and BORN SMART which shifted out slightly. About the 300 Metres,
EQUUS ZEPHYRUS was unbalanced when momentarily awkward on the heels of
FORTUNE MAPLE. G Mosse (GOLDEN BELL) said he had been instructed to
ride the horse somewhere in the first 3 or 4 if possible. He said GOLDEN BELL did
not work to the Start well, but after warming up he felt the horse was satisfactory to
run. He said GOLDEN BELL came from the gates nicely, but to maintain a forward
position he was going to push the horse along, he soon became very concerned with
its action and considered had he pushed it along, the horse might have caused
problems to itself and other runners. Therefore he eased GOLDEN BELL out of the
race and did consider pulling the horse up altogether. The performance of
GOLDEN BELL was considered unacceptable. Before it will be allowed to race
again, it must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must pass an
official veterinary examination. FORTUNE MAPLE and GOLDEN BELL were
sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, it was noted that
CITY FORTUNE had its tongue over the bit.
