Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, TOY QUEST, which had been noted to have an unusual gait during its preliminary, was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. The horse was trotted up and passed suitable to race. Also after arriving at the Start, PALETTE NATURAL was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He noted two small abrasions to the front of the left hock. The horse was trotted up and after the necessary consultations was passed suitable to race. Then after being boxed, PALETTE NATURAL became fractious, lunged forward and hit its head on the gates. TOY QUEST was slow to begin. SEASONS TREASURE, which was standing with its head turned to the left hand side, was slow to begin. MY CHIEF was a little slow to begin and shortly afterwards was bumped by ELEPHANT DANCE which shifted out. ARMONDO began awkwardly and shifted out, causing PALETTE NATURAL to be taken out and bumped BOBO DUCK. Near the 1500 Metres, M Cahill (SALENTINO) dropped his whip. Near the 1200 Metres, ELEPHANT DANCE got its head up and became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of STRONGHEART. This caused some inconvenience to TRICCOLO. In the middle stages, ELEPHANT DANCE proved difficult to settle. At the 500 Metres, PALETTE NATURAL was crowded for room by SEASONS TREASURE which got its head on the side and lay in away from TOY QUEST. Prior to straightening, MY CHIEF was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CLASSA WIN. Some inconvenience was caused to PALETTE NATURAL which was following. G Schofield (DANHERO) said with the horse running over the increased distance of 1650 Metres for the first time tonight, he had hoped to ride the horse with cover, however, from the outside barrier he was obliged to race in the early and middle stages wide and without cover. He said DANHERO travelled more keenly than he wished, however, after obtaining cover near the 800 Metres the horse did relax. He said prior to straightening the horse gave ground quickly. He said the manner in which the race was run the horse did not run out the distance of tonight's race. PALETTE NATURAL and DANHERO were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. Following the horse, it was noted PALETTE NATURAL had blood present at both nostrils. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer. An endoscopic examination was carried out. This showed the bleeding was from the nasal passages and as such the horse was not deemed to have bled. After the race, DANHERO was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. CLASSA WIN and MY CHIEF were sent for sampling.
