Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the barrier, it was noted ABLE CHOICE had a small amount of blood present in its mouth. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. HO CHOI began awkwardly and shortly after the start was bumped by ABLE CHOICE which shifted out. BULL'S EYE was slow to begin. KIDDYLAND was also slow to begin, in the early stages proved difficult to settle and near the 800 Metres got its head up and shifted out. This caused some inconvenience to ASIA RISING. O Doleuze (TRILLION WIN) explained it had been his intention to lead, however, the horse was slow to begin. He said after this he rode his mount along in an endeavour to go forward, the horse quickly mustered speed and after the 1300 Metres was severely checked when disappointed for running inside MONARDS which had prior to this shifted towards the rail. He said TRILLION WIN continued to prove difficult to settle and again got its head up when close to the heels of MONARDS after the 1000 Metres. When questioned regarding the improved performance of PRIME WITNESS, Trainer D A Hayes said the horse had worked "brilliantly" on the 1800 Metre grass gallop last Monday when not wearing blinkers. He said in this work PRIME WITNESS was ridden by G Mossé and subsequent to this G Mossé recommended the blinkers be removed from PRIME WITNESS. Mr Hayes said he accepted this advice of G Mossé. He added PRIME WITNESS had been sprinted up this morning in an attempt to "wake the horse up". He said from a wide barrier, PRIME WITNESS was able to cross to the lead and dictate terms to suit in front. The explanations submitted by Mr Hayes were accepted. Apprentice P H Lo (SUPER GOAL STRIKER) said he had been instructed by the horse's trainer, Mr A S Cruz, to ride the horse in a rearward position today as it had drawn a wide barrier and was dropping back significantly in distance. C Soumillon (ABLE CHOICE) said he had been instructed to ride the horse back in the field as is normal. He said ABLE CHOICE began fairly, he endeavoured to carry out his riding instructions in the early stages, however, after travelling about 200 Metres he was aware the pace of the race was only moderate and because of this he allowed ABLE CHOICE to travel into a more forward position. He said in the early stages he was unable to obtain cover, however, at the 800 Metres he shifted to a position behind HAPPY MOMENTUM and enjoyed a comfortable run throughout. He said when placed under pressure, ABLE CHOICE failed to respond in the manner in which it normally does and in his opinion was generally disappointing. He said after the race ABLE CHOICE felt normal and he was unable to offer any explanation for the horse's performance. ABLE CHOICE, PRIME WITNESS and HO CHOI were sent for sampling.
