Racing Incident Report

PORT OF HOPE was slow to begin, then on jumping bounded in the air. PRETTY DOUBLE was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, PRECIOUS MOMENTS was crowded for room between BRILLIANT and SILLY BOY, both of which shifted ground. Over the final 100 Metres, SING AND DRINK, which was giving ground, hung out and because of this was not ridden out as it normally would be. Throughout the race, ASIA STAR hung out and over the concluding stages shifted ground, causing DO IT WELL to be taken out and in turn caused inconvenience to FRENCH CONNECTION and HAPPY YEARS. Also throughout the race, DO IT WELL hung in and near the 300 Metres shifted ground, causing some inconvenience to HAPPY YEARS. The performance of PRETTY DOUBLE, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, PRETTY DOUBLE will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. B Prebble (BRILLIANT) was fined $3,000 for improper use of the whip in that he had raised marks on the horse's right flank. G Mossé (HAPPY YEARS) explained he had not been riding the horse at its recent track work, however, the stable had informed him of the horse's well being. He said HAPPY YEARS began well and travelled satisfactorily in the early stages, however, when placed under pressure at the 450 Metres did not respond to his riding and in his opinion was most disappointing. He said HAPPY YEARS pulled up satisfactorily following the race and he was unable to offer any explanation for the horse's performance. HAPPY YEARS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, HAPPY YEARS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination of the horse showed a significant amount of blood in the trachea. Before being permitted to race again, HAPPY YEARS will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. SING AND DRINK was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of SING AND DRINK after the race did not show any significant findings. COOL SWING and SILLY BOY were sent for sampling.
