Racing Incident Report

MOVE IT was slow to begin. FLYING MACHINE began awkwardly and got its head up on jumping. BEST LUCK began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, SAMBUCA and BOBO WIN lost their running when crowded for room between FANTASY which got its head on the side and shifted in abruptly and CELESTIAL MAGIC which got its head on the side and shifted out abruptly. At the 800 Metres, CELESTIAL MAGIC was steadied away from the heels of OUR CLASS which steadied in front. KEY TO SUCCESS, which was following CELESTIAL MAGIC, was steadied in consequence. Shortly after straightening, KEY TO SUCCESS, which had been held up for running, was checked while trying to improve inside CELESTIAL MAGIC (G Mossé) which at that time momentarily shifted to the inside of OUR CLASS in an attempt to find clear running. OUR CLASS had momentarily shifted away from the running rail, then drifted back in. This caused CELESTIAL MAGIC to be steadied and shift to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running. Whilst the check to KEY TO SUCCESS was of significance, the Stewards formed the opinion the actions of G Mossé in today's circumstances did not place him in breach of the rules, therefore no action was taken, however, he was advised to exercise care at all times. For a considerable distance after the 300 Metres, KEY TO SUCCESS was held up and unable to obtain clear running initially behind BEST LUCK which was giving ground, then behind SAMBUCA and tight inside BOBO WIN. Near the 200 Metres, when endeavouring to obtain clear running on the outside of SAMBUCA, KEY TO SUCCESS shifted out and bumped BOBO WIN on several occasions. KEY TO SUCCESS was then unable to obtain clear running on the outside of SAMBUCA, continued to race awkwardly close to that horse's heels and tight inside BOBO WIN, then near the winning post was steadied away from the heels of SAMBUCA and shifted in. Because of these circumstances, KEY TO SUCCESS was not ridden out as it normally would be. Throughout the race, DEVIL MOON raced wide and without cover. W Woods (BEST LUCK) explained he had been instructed to go forward on the horse and ride it where it was comfortable. He said if another runner were to go forward of him, he would have been satisfied to obtain cover behind it. He said however when he was able to race to the outside and behind OUR CLASS without making any use of BEST LUCK, he allowed his mount to continue on in that position. CELESTIAL MAGIC and OUR CLASS were sent for sampling.
