Racing Incident Report

KING OF THE TURF began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SOUND OF SILENCE which as a result lost ground. DON SEBASTIAN began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall, then shortly afterwards steadied when crowded for room between CAPABEL and DOLPHIN STAR, both of which shifted ground. From a gate towards the outside, CAPABEL was obliged to race wide and without cover, then gave ground quickly from the 500 Metres. The performance of CAPABEL was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CAPABEL will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the 500 Metres, MAXIMUM JOY was carried wider by CAPABEL which was giving ground. Near the 300 Metres, WAIALAE WIN was held up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SHERIFF BAMBOO which was giving ground. After the 300 Metres, SOUND OF SILENCE was steadied and shifted to the outside of WAIALAE WIN to obtain clear running. DON SEBASTIAN tailed out throughout. Before being allowed to race again, DON SEBASTIAN will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DON SEBASTIAN was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of DON SEBASTIAN after the race did not show any significant findings. F Coetzee (SHERIFF BAMBOO) said he had to make use of the horse in the early stages to cross from a wide barrier to race in the lead. He said entering the Back Straight he was unable to clear ALWAYS ZIETEN and shift to the fence and because of this SHERIFF BAMBOO would not relax for him. He said because of this prior to straightening SHERIFF BAMBOO commenced to give ground. He said despite the winner racing three quarters of a length behind him to his inside during the run, the fact that SHERIFF BAMBOO was obliged to race off the fence and would not relax were in his opinion the cause of the horse's poor performance. The explanation submitted by F Coetzee was accepted. T Mundry (MAXIMUM JOY) said he had been instructed to ride the horse midfield, however, at no stage of the race did the horse travel. He said he pulled the whip after the 1000 Metres to endeavour to hold its position, however, the horse failed to respond and was well beaten. The performance of MAXIMUM JOY was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MAXIMUM JOY will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MAXIMUM JOY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, MAXIMUM JOY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. SHERIFF BAMBOO, ALWAYS ZIETEN and KING OF THE TURF were sent for sampling.
