Racing Incident Report

FABULOUS was slow to begin. SAND DANCE began very awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall, then shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between SOUND OF SILENCE which got its head on the side and shifted in and SAVINGS ACCOUNT which shifted out. As a consequence of this, SAND DANCE got well back. Near the 1100 Metres, FUN CRUISER was steadied when crowded for room inside GOOD FRIENDS (Apprentice H W Lai) which shifted in when not quite clear. Apprentice Lai was advised to exercise more care. Near the 1000 Metres, ARIGATO was steadied when crowded for room between UPPA HAND and SAVINGS ACCOUNT which was racing tight inside SOUND OF SILENCE. Near the 800 Metres, SAVINGS ACCOUNT was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SOUND OF SILENCE. At the 700 Metres, PLEASURE PLEASURE, which was hanging out, was steadied away from the heels of UPPA HAND. When PLEASURE PLEASURE steadied, inconvenience was caused to ARIGATO and SAVINGS ACCOUNT. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, GOOD FRIENDS was bumped by PLEASURE PLEASURE which continued to hang out. On straightening, PLEASURE PLEASURE became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of SOUND OF SILENCE. At the 200 Metres, ARIGATO was steadied when crowded for room between GOOD FRIENDS and SOUND OF SILENCE which when giving ground shifted out. Then at the 100 Metres, ARIGATO was steadied away from the heels of WISDOM EXPRESS which was being straightened after shifting ground while hanging in. At the 100 Metres, FABULOUS was shifted to the outside of UPPA HAND to continue going forward. In the Straight, WISDOM EXPRESS hung in and proved difficult to ride. Apprentice H W Lai, 5th placegetter, was reminded of his responsibilities to ride his mounts out hands and heels right to the winning post wherever possible. Y T Cheng (WISDOM EXPRESS) said he had been instructed tonight because of the anticipated lack of true speed in the race from the outside barrier to go forward. He said in accordance with those instructions he rode WISDOM EXPRESS along in the early stages, then in the middle sages was caught wide, he therefore allowed WISDOM EXPRESS to continue on and race three wide outside the lead. The explanation submitted by Y T Cheng was accepted. H K Yim (SOUND OF SILENCE) said he was instructed to lead if possible, however, if another horse went forward with him, he should sit outside that horse. He said SOUND OF SILENCE began fairly, he went forward in the early stages and gradually improved his position to race outside the leader, UPPA HAND. He said when WISDOM EXPRESS improved to race on his outside, SOUND OF SILENCE did not appear to concentrate when racing between horses and in the Straight gave ground quickly. He said in his opinion SOUND OF SILENCE held its breath and this caused the horse to perform poorly. SOUND OF SILENCE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of SOUND OF SILENCE after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, SOUND OF SILENCE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KING PALM and KING ERIE were sent for sampling.
