Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, it was noted STARDANE had blood present in its mouth. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said it lost an upper temporary tooth and in his opinion was suitable to race. SPARKY began awkwardly, got its head up and then was bumped by SUPREMACY which shifted out. In the early stages, FANTASY hung in. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, STARDANE was crowded for room between WINNING COUNTER and COP HILL LAD, both of which shifted a little ground. Making the Home Turn, STARDANE was awkwardly placed inside the heels of WINNING COUNTER. Near the 200 Metres, COP HILL LAD and KINGSTON WINNER came together as KINGSTON WINNER improved into a run on the outside of FANTASY. After the 200 Metres, FERRULE was steadied away from the heels of FANTASY which when giving ground got its head on the side and shifted in slightly. Near the 100 Metres, the whip of M Zahra (SPARKY) became entangled with the whip of H K Yim (COP HILL LAD). C Williams (OUR CLASS) said when he had ridden the horse at its most recent start, it did not show its anticipated early speed. He said again today the horse did not muster speed in the early stages, he then rode along to maintain as forward a position as possible. He said after the 800 Metres he had the opportunity of shifting across to race to the outside of STARDANE, however, at that time COP HILL LAD was endeavouring to shift in in front of him to race behind SUPREMACY. He said in his opinion when COP HILL LAD shifted in, it would then be required to steady and this would cause inconvenience to OUR CLASS, he therefore elected to allow OUR CLASS to remain in clear running with cover behind FANTASY. He said making the turn after the 700 Metres OUR CLASS got its head on the side as it had done previously, was reluctant to shift across and raced outside horses. He said he allowed OUR CLASS to continue on free striding rather than restraining the horse and causing it to become unbalanced. FERRULE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, FERRULE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FERRULE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. STARDANE, GOLDEN CARE and WINNING COUNTER were sent for sampling.
