Racing Incident Report

WINTROW was withdrawn on 14.10.04 on veterinary grounds (temperature). Before being allowed to race again, WINTROW will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. RAIDER was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, MERIDIAN STAR got its head up. Also shortly after the start, SATURN and BLUE STITCH were momentarily crowded for room between BOWMAN'S CROSSING and SELF FLIT which shifted in when only just clear. T Mundry (SATURN) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1400 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of BOWMAN'S CROSSING, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. T Mundry was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 28 October 2004 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of this suspension is deferred until after the Happy Valley meeting next Wednesday 20 October 2004. In addition, T Mundry was fined $10,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. For some distance after the 1400 Metres, SATURN proved difficult to settle. After the 1300 Metres, BULL'S EYE was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of BOWMAN'S CROSSING. After the 600 Metres, MERIDIAN STAR was steadied away from the heels of BULLISH LUCK. D Whyte (BOWMAN'S CROSSING) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 200 Metres he shifted his mount to the outside of SATURN, in doing so caused INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS to be carried out which in turn caused BLUE STITCH which was racing to its outside to be carried out, strike the heels of AIN'T HERE, blunder and almost fall. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for D Whyte to be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 28 October 2004 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of this suspension is deferred until after the Happy Valley meeting next Wednesday 20 October 2004. In addition, D Whyte was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. When BLUE STITCH almost fell, BULLISH LUCK was severely checked and shifted out, causing RAIDER and PERFECT PARTNER to be severely hampered and to a lesser extent PALETTE NATURAL and BULL'S EYE. BLUE STITCH was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BLUE STITCH after the race did not show any significant findings. PERFECT PARTNER, AIN'T HERE and BOWMAN'S CROSSING were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 18 October 2004)
BLUE STITCH, which almost fell as a result of an incident approaching the 200 Metres, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. BLUE STITCH was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A T Millard this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be mildly lame in the left front leg and to have shifted its left front plate. Before being allowed to race again, BLUE STITCH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
