Racing Incident Report

At declaration time, Y Lerner was declared to ride SWEET SMILE. Shortly after declarations, Mr P F Yiu, the trainer of SWEET SMILE, informed the Stewards that he had been advised by Y Lerner that he was unable to make the weight on SWEET SMILE. As such T Mundry was substituted as the rider of the horse. For accepting this ride when overweight, Y Lerner was fined $2,000. KING OF FIELD bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. On jumping, DESERT STORM and DIVINE FEELING were checked when crowded for room between GOLD MASTER which shifted out and A PLUS FIT which got its head on the side and shifted in away from HONEY MONEY. Also on jumping, OSCAR STAR and SWEET SMILE were checked when crowded for room between MANGROVE which got its head up and shifted out abruptly and HARRY HARRY which shifted in away from NOBLE WIND. In this incident, HARRY HARRY also lost its running. After the 1500 Metres, GOLD MASTER got its head up, proved very difficult to settle and got beyond the control of Apprentice H W Lai, its rider. Near the 1000 Metres, SWEET SMILE, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of NOBLE WIND. B Prebble (SHENANEGAN) was charged with careless riding under Rule 100(1) in that after the 400 Metres he shifted his mount out when not clear of MANGROVE, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. B Prebble pleaded not guilty and made further submissions which included reference to GOLD MASTER shifting away from the rail and contributing to the incident together with further evidence from G Schofield, the rider of MANGROVE, that SHENANEGAN had not caused his mount any inconvenience until such time as GOLD MASTER shifted. The Stewards having considered these submissions were of the view that as some doubt existed, the benefit of which should be given to B Prebble, therefore the charge was not sustained. After the 400 Metres, KING OF SPADES was steadied when disappointed for running between ENAMELLED and NOBLE WIND. After the 200 Metres, KING OF FIELD improved into a narrow run between HARRY HARRY and DESERT STORM. Over the concluding stages, SHENANEGAN hung in. In the Straight DIVINE FEELING hung in and proved difficult to ride. Throughout the race, ENAMELLED raced wide and without cover. KING OF FIELD was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of KING OF FIELD after the race did not show any significant findings. OSCAR STAR, HONEY MONEY and SHENANEGAN were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported that OSCAR STAR had sustained an abrasion to the right hock.
