Racing Incident Report

BARFOLD HERO was slow to begin, then in the early and middle stages proved difficult to settle. FUN CRUISER and PURPLE GOLD were slow to begin, then on jumping bumped. ENCHANTED began awkwardly, shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of BEST FOR ALL. Near the 1300 Metres, LUCKY DICE was checked away from the heels of TELECOM SUPERBOSS which at this time shifted in away from FAT CHOY FOREVER (B Prebble) which was shifting across to race on the rail in the lead and was clear of TELECOM SUPERBOSS. In the circumstances, no action was taken, however, B Prebble was advised against the practice of shifting abruptly. At the 1200 Metres, AUSPICIOUS ODYSSEY was steadied away from the heels of TOURELLE LAD. On straightening, FAT CHOY FOREVER was shifted out in an endeavour to obtain clear running outside BEST FOR ALL and inside TELECOM SUPERBOSS. FAT CHOY FOREVER was not able to obtain this clear running and was held up for some distance close to the heels of BEST FOR ALL. At the 250 Metres, ENCHANTED, which was commencing to close the race off nicely, was steadied to avoid the heels of VITALITY CHAMP which shifted in. In the Straight, CHING HOI BOY hung in. S Dye (VITALITY CHAMP) said the intention had been to ride the horse in a forward position, the same as when it had its first race start. He said after being boxed VITALITY CHAMP became fractious and continually lifted its left hind leg from the ground. He said when the gates opened VITALITY CHAMP was not standing properly and as a consequence was a little slow to begin. He said he immediately rode the horse along, it shifted in towards the hindquarters of LUCKY DRAGON and as a consequence he had to straighten his mount. He said when this occurred AUSPICIOUS ODYSSEY and BEST FOR ALL which had drawn to his outside were being hard ridden to go forward, he elected to steady VITALITY CHAMP and followed LUCKY DRAGON in the run. He said after making the turn at the 800 Metres VITALITY CHAMP commenced to hang out, near the 600 Metres he changed the whip into his left hand. He said in the Straight VITALITY CHAMP continued to hang out, he rode the horse with the whip in the left hand, it then shifted in. He said as he endeavoured to pull the whip through to his right hand, it became entangled in the mane which he was not able to free for the remainder of the race. TOURELLE LAD was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TOURELLE LAD after the race did not show any significant findings. LUCKY DRAGON, LUCKY DICE and TELECOM SUPERBOSS were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported LUCKY DRAGON had lost its left hind plate.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 8 November 2004)
TOURELLE LAD, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. TOURELLE LAD was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer A S Cruz yesterday morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the right hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, TOURELLE LAD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
