Racing Incident Report

During the preliminary, TSZ WAN FORTUNE dislodged Apprentice M W Leung, its rider, and galloped a short distance before being re-captured. The horse was returned to the Start and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. After arriving at the Start, R Fradd (SPLIT SECONDS) asked the Veterinary Surgeon to inspect the horse's right eyelid as he had noticed a lump being present. The Veterinary Surgeon said this lump was as a result of an old injury and SPLIT SECONDS was suitable to race. SPLIT SECONDS, which was standing with its head turned to the left, was slow to begin. BEING FAMOUS began awkwardly and shortly afterwards was steadied away from the heels of WHATABOB which shifted in after being bumped by AMAZING. WHATABOB, which had drawn a wide gate, was then steadied with the intention of being taken across behind runners to a position with cover, however, commenced to hang out and remained racing wide. Making the first turn, TSZ WAN FORTUNE was steadied when crowded for room between FREEBIRD which shifted out while hanging and ASSET PLAY which shifted in slightly. Near the 1400 Metres, BEING FAMOUS was steadied when crowded for room between CZAR OF PRUSSIA which shifted in slightly and DIAMOND ERA which was carried out by SPLIT SECONDS. No action was taken. Approaching the turn at the 700 Metres, LUCKY STALLION and SMART HORSE were crowded for room inside TSZ WAN FORTUNE which shifted in away from ALWAYS ZIETEN. Then making the turn at the 700 Metres, TSZ WAN FORTUNE shifted out, clipped the heels of ALWAYS ZIETEN, blundered and almost fell. AMAZING, KINGFIELD, SMART HORSE and LUCKY STALLION were checked in consequence. The occurrence in the opinion of the Stewards was accidental. Shortly after this, SPLIT SECONDS was severely checked to avoid the heels of TSZ WAN FORTUNE which gave ground quickly. After this, TSZ WAN FORTUNE was eased down and finished distanced. TSZ WAN FORTUNE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TSZ WAN FORTUNE after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of TSZ WAN FORTUNE including its pre-race behaviour was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, TSZ WAN FORTUNE will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Prior to straightening, CZAR OF PRUSSIA was bumped by SPLIT SECONDS which shifted out to improve. Rounding the Home Turn and in the Straight, FREEBIRD hung out. G Mossé (BEING FAMOUS), first placegetter, was reminded of his responsibility to ride his mounts out right to the winning post wherever possible. SPLIT SECONDS, BEING FAMOUS and SMART HORSE were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported SMART HORSE had lost its left front plate and that FREEBIRD had lost its right hind plate.
