Racing Incident Report

Prior to the running of Race 5, the Veterinary Officer reported that HIMALAYA had shifted its right front plate and sustained a punctured wound to the foot and as such was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of HIMALAYA. Before being allowed to race again, HIMALAYA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After leaving the Parade Ring, WIND WINNER dislodged its rider, F Coetzee. Then after arriving at the Start, WIND WINNER was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said after the necessary consultations the horse was considered suitable to race. WIND WINNER, which had been intended to be ridden in a forward position, began awkwardly, bumped the inside gate of its stall and lost ground. After this, when WIND WINNER failed to muster speed, it got well back. MINE HOST began awkwardly, causing O Doleuze, its rider, to become unbalanced. SUPER COMBED, which was standing with its head turned to the left, began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall and lost ground. NORTHERN GOLD BALL began awkwardly, got its head up, shifted out and bumped GREEN TREASURE. After the 1400 Metres, MINE HOST was steadied away from the heels of STABLE MAIL which shifted in when barely clear. From shortly after the 400 Metres until near the 200 Metres, SUPER COMBED was held up and unable to improve on the inside of SOPRANO and behind MOSCOW BALLET which was giving ground. Over the concluding stages, SUPER COMBED and SOPRANO hung out. For the major part of the race, GREEN TREASURE raced wide and without cover. C Soumillon (LUCKSWELL) explained approaching the 600 Metres GREEN TREASURE commenced to improve on his outside. He said he noticed GREEN TREASURE'S head to be turned in. He said as he did not want GREEN TREASURE to go forward of him, shift in and have him tightened for room, he allowed LUCKSWELL to go forward with it, however, when he did this, LUCKSWELL shifted out and as a result of this GREEN TREASURE was carried wider making the Home Turn. C Soumillon was told in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a far greater effort to maintain his running line. MINE HOST was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MINE HOST after the race did not show any significant findings. GREEN TREASURE, SUMMERLAND and WIND WINNER were sent for sampling.
