Racing Incident Report
JOYFUL SPIRIT was withdrawn on 17.2.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MIGHTY HUGO. Before being allowed to race again, JOYFUL SPIRIT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SAINT THOMAS was a little slow to begin. DELIGHTFUL WIN began awkwardly and lost ground. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, DELIGHTFUL WIN and EVERGREEN raced tight between SAINT THOMAS and MIGHTY HUGO which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in. As a result of this crowding, EVERGREEN was not able to maintain its position. On straightening, EVERGREEN was bumped and carried wider by GOODY which was shifting towards the outside of DELIGHTFUL WIN into clear running. For some distance after straightening, MY CHOICE was held up and unable to improve between SWISS LAD and BEING FAMOUS and near the 300 Metres was hit across the head by the whip of B Prebble (BEING FAMOUS). Then after the 200 Metres, MY CHOICE was again momentarily steadied when having difficulty obtaining clear running between SWISS LAD and BEING FAMOUS. Near the 300 Metres, BEST LUCK, which was held up, was steadied and shifted in when disappointed for running between OUR JET and MY CHOICE. For the majority of the Home Straight, OUR JET had difficulty obtaining clear running and because of this was not fully tested. In the Straight, BUMPER BUMPER hung in. Throughout the race, MIGHTY HUGO raced wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the poor performance of GREAT WIN which was having its first start over 1400 Metres today, G Mossé, its rider, said it simply did not run out the distance of today's race. GREAT WIN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GREAT WIN after the race did not show any significant findings. OUR JET, BEING FAMOUS and SWISS LAD were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported SWISS LAD had lost its right hind plate.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 21 February 2005)
MIGHTY HUGO was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon at the stables of Trainer J Size this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, MIGHTY HUGO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
