Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, FAIRPLAY became fractious and broke through. FAIRPLAY was quickly reined in, returned to the Start and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, FAIRPLAY will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. SIMPLY THE BEST was slow into stride. From a gate towards the outside, BRAINIEST was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners and then for some distance proved difficult to settle. Shortly after the start, LUCKY DRAGON was crowded for room between WAFER KING which shifted in and CHECK MATE which got its head up and shifted out. In the early stages, BEAMING RIVER raced wide and after the 1000 Metres was allowed to stride forward and race outside the lead, however, continued to race three wide. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, CHECK MATE was awkwardly placed when close to the heels of SIMPLY THE BEST, then near the 500 Metres was checked away from the heels of SIMPLY THE BEST. Between the 400 Metres and the 200 Metres, SPARKLE was held up and unable to improve between FAIRPLAY and BEAMING RIVER. SIMPLY THE BEST was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. WAFER KING was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SIMPLY THE BEST and WAFER KING after the race did not show any significant findings. VITAL PATROL, CHECK MATE and AFRICAN FOREST were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted FAIRPLAY had blood present at its right nostril. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse's trachea to be clean and therefore was not deemed to be a bleeder.
