Racing Incident Report

COSMO STAR was slow to begin and then lost further ground when checked to avoid the heels of FAT DRAGON which shifted out. On jumping, TURF GOLD and METRO LEADER bumped. PLEASURE PLEASURE bounded in the air at the start. In the early stages, FAT DRAGON proved very difficult to settle. Near the 800 Metres, AWESOME EAGLE, which was proving difficult to settle, was checked away from the heels of GOLD MASTER which came back away from GOLDEN MILE. When AWESOME EAGLE checked, METRO LEADER, TURF GOLD and PREMIER BURG, which were following, were checked in consequence. After the 600 Metres, BE MY BRIDE was steadied when crowded for room between KIWI DASH which shifted in slightly and FAT DRAGON which was momentarily steadied away from the heels of WIN DANCER. In the early part of the Straight, AWESOME EAGLE was held up and unable to improve when racing behind GOLD MASTER which itself was held up and unable to improve between GOLDEN MILE and PAY-DAY. GOLD MASTER did not obtain clear running between GOLDEN MILE and PAY-DAY until near the 100 Metres. In the Straight, TURF GOLD hung in, at the 200 Metres when having difficulty obtaining clear running was steadied away from the heels of AWESOME EAGLE, then near the 100 Metres while continuing to have difficulty obtaining clear running was again steadied when awkwardly placed between AWESOME EAGLE and FAT DRAGON. Throughout the race, WIN DANCER travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, R Fradd (FAT DRAGON), which was racing with the blinkers removed today, said he had been instructed to ride the horse with cover as recently when racing in blinkers the horse had over-raced and failed to finish its races off. He said he obtained a nice position in midfield, however, FAT DRAGON again proved difficult for him to settle. He said near the 600 Metres he received slight inconvenience and after this he was unsure if BIG WINNER which was racing forward of him to his inside would shift out. He said because of this he did not improve his position to race outside that horse at this time. He said on straightening he was awkwardly placed between TURF GOLD and WIN DANCER, at the 400 Metres commenced to ride his mount along hands and heels behind BIG WINNER, however, did have difficulty obtaining clear running and as such was not able to fully test his mount until after the 200 Metres. R Fradd was told his riding between the 600 Metres and the 400 Metres had come under notice and he should when opportunities exist improve his position at critical stages of the race. TURF GOLD and BE MY BRIDE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TURF GOLD after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, BE MY BRIDE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had bled from both nostrils. WIN DANCER, PLEASURE PLEASURE and KIWI DASH were sent for sampling.
