Racing Incident Report

SEVENS HEAVEN bounded in the air at the start and shifted in, causing NATURAL NINE to be carried in onto CHALLENGER which itself had begun awkwardly and was then checked away from the heels of SINOSPIEL. DONGGUAN VICTORY was slow to begin. At the 1500 Metres, SINOSPIEL, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of NATURAL NINE (Apprentice C K Tong) which momentarily shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice Tong was advised to exercise greater care. At the 1400 Metres, SOLAR POWER got its head up, then when left racing without cover after the 1200 Metres proved difficult to settle. Passing the 1400 Metres, LORD CAIRNS, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of GRABBIT. Near the 1100 Metres, SINOSPIEL, which was continuing to prove difficult to settle, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of SEVENS HEAVEN (F Coetzee) which shifted in when barely clear. F Coetzee was advised to exercise more care. After the 800 Metres, PACIFIC ALLIANCE, which had been racing in a forward position without cover, went forward across to the lead on the fence. Making the Home Turn, SEVENS HEAVEN, which was commencing to give ground, became unbalanced and was steadied away from the heels of CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE after being carried out by TRAVEL LEADER. Whilst the riding of S Dye (PACIFIC ALLIANCE) over the concluding stages did not affect the horse's finishing position, he nonetheless was told to ensure he rides his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race where possible. SEVENS HEAVEN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, SEVENS HEAVEN was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SEVENS HEAVEN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TRAVEL LEADER and NATURAL NINE were sent for sampling.
