Racing Incident Report

JOY TRUMPS began awkwardly and was then taken across behind runners. TATTENHALL DELIGHT, which was fractious in the stalls, began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SPRING SMILES. Making the first turn, JOY TRUMPS was crowded for room inside SEA TREASURE which shifted in away from SPRING SMILES. Near the 1400 Metres, FUJIAN PRINCE was steadied away from the heels of CHINSOLA. In turn TATTENHALL DELIGHT was checked away from the heels of FUJIAN PRINCE, shifted out and hampered SAMBUOYANT. After entering the Back Straight, TATTENHALL DELIGHT commenced to over-race, shifted out and travelled without cover. After the 500 Metres, SAMBUOYANT, which had been hard ridden to maintain its position, was bumped by SEA TREASURE which at this time shifted towards the outside of TATTENHALL DELIGHT. Shortly after straightening, ALWAYS HAPPY broke down. CHINSOLA and SOHNA, which were following, were checked severely and shifted out to avoid ALWAYS HAPPY. JOY TRUMPS and MASTER ABLE were also hampered. Also shortly after straightening, SPRING SMILES, SAMBUOYANT and SEA TREASURE were hampered by TATTENHALL DELIGHT which shifted out abruptly away from the heels of COURAGEOUSHEART. K S Yu (MASTER ABLE) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in midfield or slightly further back. He said MASTER ABLE did not begin well and the horse which has a light mouth then resented the kickback and got further back than intended. Y T Cheng (JOY TRUMPS) said after entering the Back Straight there was room for him to improve his position behind FUJIAN PRINCE, however, he elected not to ride his mount along at that stage as he had been instructed to maintain a rearward position until near the 600 Metres. He did say after passing the 700 Metres he commenced to ride JOY TRUMPS along, the horse did not respond as he had anticipated and failed to make ground. Apprentice H W Lai (MAGIC TOUCH) attributed the horse's poor performance to the firm track conditions. He said MAGIC TOUCH despite the fast tempo of the race failed to make up ground in the manner in which it usually does. MAGIC TOUCH was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MAGIC TOUCH after the race did not show any significant findings. SOHNA, COURAGEOUSHEART and BAAZIGAR were sent for sampling.
