Racing Incident Report

Prior to entering the track, LIAOBUQI became fractious and dislodged C K Tong, its rider. LIAOBUQI was then led riderless to the Start before being remounted. Mr C Fownes, trainer of LIAOBUQI, was told as the horse had performed similarly at its most recent start, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in a pre-race parade before being permitted to race again. The declaration of weighed-in was deferred while the Stewards considered whether SUPER HONEY had had an unfair start. Evidence was taken from W M Lai, the rider of SUPER HONEY, and Mr J Size, the trainer of the horse. The official videos of the start were also viewed. It was established as the start was effected SUPER HONEY became fractious, reared and as a consequence lost a considerable amount of ground. In the circumstances, the Stewards did not believe SUPER HONEY had had an unfair start, therefore weighed-in was declared on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER HONEY will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. After travelling a short distance, SUPER HONEY was eased out of the race by W M Lai. W M Lai will be interviewed regarding retiring SUPER HONEY from the race at a date to be fixed. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, GOLDEN BALL was steadied when crowded for room between KING HESPERUS and AMPLE GAINS. No action was taken. In the early stages, VIVA FIGHTER was taken across behind runners. At the 1400 Metres, VIVA FIGHTER was steadied when awkwardly placed between MAGIC TEMPLE and SILVER MARK. At the 1300 Metres, SOUNDS FANTASTIC, which had been racing wide and without cover and was being steadied to come back behind LIAOBUQI, blundered when awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse. Near the 1000 Metres, VIVA FIGHTER was steadied when momentarily crowded for room inside SILVER MARK which was carried in slightly by MAGIC TEMPLE. At the same time, SILVER MARK was reluctant to hold its position and lost ground. SILVER MARK was then ridden along to make ground and making the turn at the 700 Metres was checked to avoid the heels of MAGIC TEMPLE. When SILVER MARK checked, it shifted out, causing GOLDEN BALL to be hampered. For the major part of the race, KING HESPERUS travelled wide and without cover. M W Leung (GOLDEN BALL) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in a midfield position if possible. He said after receiving crowding making the first turn, GOLDEN BAL raced further back than intended, at no stage travelled comfortably, making the turn after the 700 Metres was inclined to hang out and in the Straight was disappointing in the manner in which it closed the race off. The Stewards will afford Y T Cheng (SOUNDS FANTASTIC) an opportunity to explain the horse’s poor performance. VIVA FIGHTER, SOUNDS FANTASTIC and GOLDEN BALL were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of VIVA FIGHTER, SOUNDS FANTASTIC and GOLDEN BALL after the race did not show any significant findings. SEA TREASURE and SUMMERVILLE POWER were sent for sampling.
