Racing Incident Report

NASA PEARL was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (skin allergy). Before being allowed to race again, NASA PEARL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CHIRAC was slow into stride. Shortly after the start, FANTASTIC DANCER was steadied when crowded for room inside ROCKALOT which shifted ground. In the early stages, HAPPY ALL AROUND was ridden along to go forward, however, failed to muster and travelled wide and without cover in the early stages. Also in the early stages, from a wide barrier, WADADELIGHT was taken back. Approaching the first turn, AMAZING CHOICE was steadied when crowded for room between CHIRAC and HAPPY ALL AROUND (Apprentice M Chadwick) which got its head on the side and shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice Chadwick was told in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a greater effort to prevent his mount from shifting ground. Entering the Back Straight, MASSIVE STAR was steadied away from the heels of OLYMPICSHIP. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, NEEDLES AND THREAD was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of MASSIVE STAR. After the 300 Metres, LUCKY CHAMPION, which was commencing to close the race off, was inconvenienced and carried in by ALICE TOO which when weakening shifted ground. After the race, Apprentice M Chadwick said his mount hung in for the major part of the race and did not travel comfortably. Z Purton (OLYMPICSHIP) said he was instructed to lead today’s race. He said it was pointed out to him that the winner of the previous All Weather Track race today had led and travelled on the rail throughout and also that OLYMPICSHIP had performed well when leading on today’s surface two starts ago. He said in accordance with those instructions he rode OLYMPICSHIP along vigorously in the early stages to go forward. He said making the first turn he felt he would be able to cross MASSIVE STAR and lead comfortably, however, MASSIVE STAR then commenced to over-race and as a consequence he was required to make more use of his mount than he would have liked to cross to the lead on entering the Back Straight. He said he was able to steady the tempo considerably in the middle stages of the race. He said near the 600 Metres MASSIVE STAR improved its position to challenge him on the outside and OLYMPICSHIP immediately came under pressure. He said as a consequence of the manner in which the race was run and the use he was required to make of his mount, OLYMPICSHIP gave ground over the final 300 Metres. THREE CLUBS was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, THREE CLUBS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, THREE CLUBS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ALICE TOO and HAPPY ALL AROUND were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ALICE TOO and HAPPY ALL AROUND after the race did not show any significant findings. ROCKALOT and NEEDLES AND THREAD were sent for sampling.
