He said shortly afterwards he received a call from the rider of THE GOODIES to make him aware that that horse had improved its position. He said he then shifted MAINLAND SHUTTLE out slightly further to ensure he did not cause interference to THE GOODIES. When questioned regarding the poor performance of SOLAR POWER, H W Lai said his mount began well, he initially rode to go forward, however, after a short distance he steadied to obtain a position with cover. He said after the 1200 Metres PALAIS D’OR commenced to improve its position and making the turn at the 800 Metres shifted in and as a consequence SOLAR POWER was left racing wide and without cover. He said in the Straight SOLAR POWER disappointed in the manner in which it finished the race off and over the concluding stages gave ground noticeably.
