Approaching the finishing line the whip of Apprentice E C W Wong became caught in the whip of B Thompson, the rider of FALCON COURT. Sent for sampling post-race.

5 3 CURRAHEE (J204) M Chadwick Shortly after the start was eased when crowded between FALCON COURT and EXCELLENT DADDY which shifted out slightly. <13/1/2025 Additional Veterinary Report>The Veterinary Surgeon reported that CURRAHEE was lame in its right front leg on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, CURRAHEE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
9 4 SPEED SWORD (H397) H Bowman Jumped only fairly. Over the concluding stages was eased when crowded between CHEER FOR SOUTH and SMART LEADER which shifted in slightly.
8 5 FLYING DRAGON (E360) K C Leung Near the 200 Metres had some difficulty obtaining clear running between DIAMOND SOARS and CHEER FOR SOUTH and as a result made contact with CHEER FOR SOUTH.
12 6 FUNG (J101) Z Purton After the event, Z Purton stated that his mount resented the kickback on the All Weather surface and in the Home Straight gave ground under pressure. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of FUNG, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FUNG will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

4 8 FALCON COURT (J056) B Thompson After the event, B Thompson stated that the instructions were to settle in a midfield position. He said after commencing well and when caught wide in the early stages he elected to allow FALCON COURT to stride forward to cross runners to his inside to avoid racing wide. He said as a result his mount raced in a more forward position than anticipated.
11 9 DIAMOND SOARS (G201) A Pouchin Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
7 10 CHEER FOR SOUTH (H178) M F Poon Approaching the 200 Metres raced tight to the inside of EXCELLENT DADDY and as a result made contact with FLYING DRAGON which shifted out slightly. Raced very wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

4 1 POSITIVE SMILE (J467) M L Yeung Between the 300 Metres and the 150 Metres was held up for clear running. When being shifted to the outside of SOLAR RIVER near the 150 Metres to attempt to obtain clear running made contact with INNO CENTURY.
5 2 GROOVY FEELING (J515) B Thompson Jumped only fairly. B Thompson was found guilty of a careless riding charge for causing interference leaving the 800 Metres (see DRAGON FOUR SEAS).
8 3 INNO CENTURY (K113) Z Purton Near the 150 Metres was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced. After the event, Z Purton stated that his mount, which was having its first race start, would derive benefit from today’s performance. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
3 4 JOYFUL TREASURE (J496) L Hewitson Shifted out on jumping despite the efforts of its rider, was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced. Held up making the Home Turn.
6 5 VIEW ALL THINGS (K101) K Teetan Bumped on jumping and then shortly afterwards shifted in, was contacted on the hindquarters and became unbalanced. After the event, K Teetan reported that his mount raced greenly, hung in throughout and in the Home Straight proved difficult to ride out.
12 6 ROBOT KNIGHT (H464) Y L Chung (-3) Prior to declaration time, the Stewards were informed by Jockey Y L Chung that he had inadvertently accepted to ride both ROBOT KNIGHT and CAMP FIRE. In the subsequent inquires made between the respective trainers and jockey, it was established that Jockey Chung had first committed to ride ROBOT KNIGHT. As such, the Steward permitted K De Melo to be substituted as the rider of CAMP FIRE. For this error, Jockey Chung was fined $2,000. K C Leung pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 300 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of ROBOT KNIGHT, resulting in ROBOT KNIGHT losing its running and having to be checked. K C Leung was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 5 February 2025 and to expire on Thursday, 13 February 2025 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, Jockey Leung was fined $110,000. In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his very poor race riding record. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
10 7 LITTLE SQUID (K050) H T Mo (-2) Crowded shortly after the start. Near the 600 Metres was steadied when momentarily crowded by VIEW ALL THINGS which shifted in when racing greenly. Over the final 50 Metres could not be ridden out when awkwardly placed behind INNO CENTURY which was giving ground.
1 8 DRAGON FOUR SEAS (J317) K C Leung Shortly after the start was badly crowded. B Thompson (GROOVY FEELING) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that leaving the 800 Metres he placed unnecessary pressure on DRAGON FOUR SEAS, resulting in DRAGON FOUR SEAS being crowded for some distance thereafter and being awkwardly placed on the heels of POSITIVE SMILE. B Thompson was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Wednesday, 5 February 2025 at Happy Valley. In addition, Jockey Thompson was fined $15,000. In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 1 and also considered his neutral race riding record. K C Leung pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 300 Metres (see ROBOT KNIGHT). Sent for sampling post-race.

11 10 TACTICAL COMMAND (H197) E C W Wong (-7) When questioned regarding his riding in the early stages and the reason his mount lost ground from the main body of the field, Apprentice E C W Wong stated that his instructions from the outside barrier were to ride his mount in a conservative manner in the early stages. He said TACTICAL COMMAND jumped well and when it was travelling strongly soon after the start, he elected to restrain his mount to comply with his instructions and to ensure that it did not hold a forward position. He said as a result he lost ground on the main body of the field and agreed with the Stewards that in retrospect he had restrained his mount too long in the early stages which resulted in it losing ground. Apprentice Wong was advised that in similar circumstances he must show better judgment to ensure that his mounts are given every possible chance to win and obtain the best possible placing.
9 11 CAMP FIRE (J259) K De Melo Shortly after the start was severely checked when crowded between VIEW ALL THINGS which was taken in by PERFECT PEACH when that runner shifted in after making contact with ROBOT KNIGHT and LITTLE SQUID which was taken out by DRAGON FOUR SEAS when that runner was crowded by JOYFUL TREASURE which shifted out despite the efforts of its rider. In the middle stages raced keenly. Approaching the 600 Metres was checked to avoid LITTLE SQUID. Between the 450 Metres and the 250 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running when being shifted out.

After the event, H Bowman stated that his mount did not travel strongly throughout the event due to the early stages of the race being run inside of standard time. He added as a result his mount finished the race off only fairly in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
11 2 JOLLY COMPANION (H454) E C W Wong (-7) Slow to begin. After the event, Apprentice E C W Wong could offer no excuse for his mount’s disappointing performance. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of JOLLY COMPANION was considered disappointing as compared to its last start. Before being allowed to race again, JOLLY COMPANION will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

He said in the early stages he settled slightly further back due to the pace of the event being run inside of standard time. He added, in his opinion, COLOURFUL WINNER would be better suited racing on the turf.

12 5 NOBLE DELUXE (K052) A Hamelin Shifted in at the start and was bumped. Near the 150 Metres, when giving ground, shifted out after being eased to avoid RIDING HIGH when that runner lay in and away from SUNNY DA BEST. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
8 6 FLYING DOUBLE (J388) H Bowman From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 450 Metres was taken wider. In the early part of the Home Straight hung in and proved difficult to ride out, resulting in its rider H Bowman changing his whip through to his right hand near the 300 Metres.
5 7 ISLAND BUDDY (J217) M Chadwick Bumped at the start.
2 8 INVINCIBLE LUCKY (J119) B Avdulla After the event, B Avdulla stated that the intention was to find a position with cover but in the early stages when runners to his outside did not show intent to lead INVINCIBLE LUCKY maintained the lead without being pressured to do so. Trainer M Newnham confirmed the instructions were from an inside barrier to hold a more forward position than at its previous race starts, particularly with blinkers being reapplied but had not expected INVINCIBLE LUCKY to lead the event. 9 9 LUCKY BLESSING (K073) Y L Chung (-3) Approaching the 450 Metres was hampered when taken wider by RIDING HIGH which shifted out to improve.
3 10 MY FLYING ANGEL (J174) A Badel Shifted out, made contact with the left side of its barrier on jumping and lost ground.
6 11 TRIUMPHANT WARRIOR (H430) C L Chau (-2) Between the 400 Metres and the 300 Metres was held up for clear running. Over the concluding stages could not be fully ridden out when positioned close to SUNNY DA BEST. After the event, C L Chau reported that when the pace of the event steadied near the 600 Metres TRIUMPHANT WARRIOR commenced to race keenly and was steadied for some distance thereafter when awkwardly placed close to RIDING HIGH.
10 12 ISLAND GOLDEN (H018) M F Poon Near the 250 Metres was steadied to avoid TRIUMPHANT WARRIOR (C L Chau) which shifted in to obtain clear running. C L Chau was advised to exercise more care.
WV BIG RED (H299) --- BIG RED, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 11.1.25 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, BIG RED will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

When questioned, K C Leung stated that he was not instructed to go forward but in the early stages when caught wide he allowed MASTER TRILLION to cross runners to his inside to lead rather than being caught wide. He said making the first turn MASTER TRILLION hung out slightly and as a result lost ground when being crossed by PEARL OF PANG’S. K C Leung was advised, wherever possible, he must ensure he sets a consistent pace. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Near the 250 Metres SUNLIGHT POWER was eased when crowded between PACKING HERMOD and DANCING CODE which continued to shift out. Apprentice Wong was reprimanded. After being shifted to the inside of DANCING CODE near the 200 Metres then became held up for clear running between TOURBILLON PRINCE and DANCING CODE which shifted back in. As a result, SUNLIGHT POWER could not be ridden out for the remainder of the event.

Near the 350 Metres endeavoured to obtain a narrow run between AWESOME TREASURE and CALL ME GORGEOUS. When AWESOME TREASURE shifted out slightly, GOKO WIN then had difficulty obtaining clear running until near the 250 Metres.
7 12 GREAT STATE (J124) M L Yeung Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and was steadied away from LUCKY EIGHT. After being shifted behind MATTERS MOST near the 1100 Metres then raced keenly near the 1000 Metres and was steadied when positioned close to MATTERS MOST. Between the 300 Metres and the 200 Metres was held up for clear running behind CALL ME GORGEOUS. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, GREAT STATE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

14 4 HELENE WARRIOR (J207) B Avdulla A Pouchin (KING MILES) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 100 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in, taking TOP GUN in onto HELENE WARRIOR, resulting in HELENE WARRIOR losing its running and being checked. A Pouchin was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Wednesday, 5 February 2025 at Happy Valley. In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his very good race riding record. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
12 5 STEPS AHEAD (J263) C L Chau (-2) Near the 200 Metres was checked when crowded between TOP GUN which was taken out by HELENE WARRIOR when that runner shifted out and away from MARKWIN whilst giving ground and KING MILES (A Pouchin) which shifted in slightly. A Pouchin was advised to exercise more care. Raced very wide and without cover for the majority of the event. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

After the event, B Avdulla stated that after placing his mount under pressure in the early part of the Home Straight it did not respond to his riding. He said when he put the whip away near the 200 Metres and commenced to ride his mount out hands and heels, soon after CHING commenced to respond to his riding before making good ground over the concluding stages.
7 4 LO RIDER (K161) H Bowman As the start was effected became fractious and as a consequence reared, jumped awkwardly and lost ground. A warning was placed on the barrier manners of the horse. Over the final 150 Metres was held up for clear running behind GLORIOUS SUCCESS and could not be ridden out to the finish of the event.

13 6 PACKING TURBINE (J470) A Atzeni Near the 250 Metres raced tight between STELLAR SWIFT and IVY LEAGUE which shifted out. After the event, A Atzeni stated that with the pace of the event being run outside of standard time in the middle stages, when the pace increased on the Home Turn, his mount came under immediate pressure and was unable to finish the race off thereafter. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

1. 8 January 2025 Happy Valley Racemeeting – Race 9 (336)

NOBLE PURSUIT – H Bowman was interviewed relative to the tactics he adopted in the early stages where he shifted to a position one-off the rail near the 1500 Metres to follow SUNSTRIDER. H Bowman stated that due to the pattern of racing during the meeting, he felt it was advantageous to endeavour to get his horse to the outside, particularly as NOBLE PURSUIT races best when in this position. He said for this reason he elected to shift out to follow SUNSTRIDER after the 1500 Metres as he felt such manoeuvre would allow SUNSTRIDER to shift to the rail and provide NOBLE PURSUIT with a trailing position behind DILBAGH. He said when SUNSTRIDER remained racing one-off, SIMPLE HEDGE was able to improve to that runner’s inside and as a result NOBLE PURSUIT settled further back in the field than what he had anticipated. He added along the Back Straight whilst the opportunity was available to shift in and follow SIMPLE HEDGE, he elected to shift out to attempt to position his mount to the outside but was prevented from doing so when SPEED DRAGON held its position to his outside. He said as a result near the 550 Metres he was forced to go back to the inside to start a forward move and follow SIMPLE HEDGE. H Bowman reinforced his views that NOBLE PURSUIT was disadvantaged by racing to the inside and also was not assisted by the track pattern on the night as it was forced to make a run on the inside.
