Racing Incident Report

SPINNING CITY left the gates very awkwardly and became unbalanced. ENERGETIC PRINCE was slowly away. From a difficult gate, CHAMPION RANGER was obliged to race wide and not able to find any cover. In the early stages, SPINNING CITY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of APPLIED SUPREME, was pulling and inclined to lay out. Also in the early stages, FANTASTICO, which was racing without cover, pulled and proved difficult to settle. From before the 700 Metres until about the 400 Metres, INDY'S GEM was held up behind L'ENFANT which was giving ground. Approaching the 400 Metres, INDY'S GEM was steadied and shifted to the outside of L'ENFANT, then just after straightening was shifted in to find running inside SPINNING CITY and about the 300 Metres was steadied when having difficulty in obtaining the run. Near the 400 Metres, ENERGETIC PRINCE, which was racing wide, was hit on the head up by the whip of E Saint-Martin (NATURALLY KING). When questioned, R Quinn (LEGEND'S GLORY) said the horse had begun awkwardly at its pervious start at Happy Valley, he had hoped today to ensure LEGEND'S GLORY left the gates cleanly and although it was expected the horse would be well back, it was thought if LEGEND'S GLORY jumped well, it could at least remain in touch with the rear of the field. R Quinn said however when the gates opened, LEGEND'S GLORY knuckled, was not in touch, had to be ridden along much more than he would have liked to try and catch up which he was only able to do by about the 1000 Metres. The explanations submitted by R Quinn were accepted. After the race, L'ENFANT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse was suffering from a heart irregularity. The performance of L'ENFANT was considered unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it must perform satisfactorily and competitively in an official barrier trial and will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. LEGEND'S GLORY, SINCERE AND FAITH and THISTLEJADE were sent for sampling.
