Racing Incident Report

SPECTACULAR HIT was withdrawn on 11.4.03 on veterinary grounds (sore left fore tendon due to a superficial wound) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter JOHNNY JUMP UP (G Schofield). Before being allowed to race again, SPECTACULAR HIT will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. While parading before the race, CHINA CAT kicked out and made contact with a rail. After arriving at the Start, CHINA CAT was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations was passed suitable to race. The start was delayed slightly while repair work was carried out to the back gates of stall 10. DAILY BREAD and WONDERFUL MOMENTS were slow to begin. JOHNNY JUMP UP bounded in the air at the start and bumped the inside gate of its stall. HEALTHY WEALTHY was difficult to load and then began awkwardly. Before HEALTHY WEALTHY can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. From a wide barrier, BABY KING raced in a forward position but was obliged to race wide and without cover throughout and in the Straight gave ground. In the early stages, SCINTILLATION proved difficult to settle and near the 800 Metres got its head on the side, shifted in and caused some crowding to PREMIER BURG which as a result was reluctant to hold its position inside SCINTILLATION. This caused inconvenience to HEALTHY WEALTHY which was following PREMIER BURG. Near the 600 Metres, HEALTHY WEALTHY was again inconvenienced when following PREMIER BURG which got its head up and was reluctant to maintain its position to the inside of HIGHLAND DAWN. At the 600 Metres, SCINTILLATION became unbalanced and bumped the running rail. On straightening, CHINA CAT was momentarily steadied away from the heels of WONDERFUL MOMENTS which shifted out to improve. After the 400 Metres, HEALTHY WEALTHY and SHENANEGAN bumped due mainly to HEALTHY WEALTHY shifting out. Near the 300 Metres, JOHNNY JUMP UP, which was beginning to close the race off, was steadied and shifted to the inside of BABY KING which was giving ground. The performance of TRICK OR TREAT, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before TRICK OR TREAT can race again, it will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BABY KING was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. Following the race, BABY KING was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was making a mild abnormal breathing noise. An endoscopic examination was carried out and this did not show any significant findings. GIVE ME FIVE, TRIUMPH and WONDERFUL MOMENTS were sent for sampling.
