Racing Incident Report

During the parade, LATTE spread its right fore plate. This plate was reset. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said it was suitable to race. ON THE TEE began awkwardly and shortly after the start was further inconvenienced when DIVINE FEELING shifted in. SONG FOR SZESZE began awkwardly with its head up, shifted out and bumped the outside gate of its stall. On jumping, VENETIAN MASTER got its head up, was then immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners to a position closer to the rail. In the middle stages, GREAT KID hung out badly, then commenced to give ground from about the 600 Metres and finished tailed off. GREAT KID was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, GREAT KID was examined by the Veterinary Officer. An endoscopic examination was carried out. This showed significant mucus in the trachea of the horse. The performance of GREAT KID was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GREAT KID will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Near the 800 Metres, ZERUBBABEL was steadied when crowded for room by DASH FOR VICTORIES which got its head on the side and shifted in away from EXCEPTIONAL after initially being carried in by that horse. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Near the 700 Metres, VENETIAN MASTER and EXCEPTIONAL were shifted out to avoid GREAT KID which was giving ground. On straightening, DASH FOR VICTORIES was shifted to the inside of DIVINE FEELING to obtain clear running. Throughout the race, SONG FOR SZESZE was obliged to race wide and without cover, then on straightening commenced to give ground and dropped out. Before being permitted to race again, SONG FOR SZESZE will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. LATTE, ENORMOUS WAY and VENETIAN MASTER were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted ZERUBBABEL returned to the unsaddling area with a nasal discharge. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer. An endoscopic examination was carried out. This showed significant mucus in the trachea of the horse. Before being allowed to race again, ZERUBBABEL will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
