Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, HIDDEN DRAGON reared and momentarily had its head caught in the front gates of its stall. HIDDEN DRAGON was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. Shortly after the start, FLYING GENERAL and SNIPPEDYDOODA bumped. After the 1000 Metres, HELENE ELEGANCE was steadied when crowded for room by HIDDEN DRAGON (F Coetzee) which shifted in when not quite clear. F Coetzee was advised to exercise more care. Making the turn after the 800 Metres, SNIPPEDYDOODA hung out. At the 600 Metres, FLYING GENERAL was steadied when racing close to the heels of SANBENITO and tight inside SNIPPETYIYEA. S Dye (SAINTLY PARTNERS) said the horse only performs well when properly balanced in its stride. He said today SAINTLY PARTNERS began well, shortly after the start became unbalanced in its action and he therefore elected to steady his mount to ensure it was properly balanced. He said as a result of doing this SAINTLY PARTNERS raced further back than was anticipated, however, had he ridden SAINTLY PARTNERS along to get on the back of HELENE ELEGANCE in the early stages, the horse would not have travelled and consequently not have finished the race off. He said SAINTLY PARTNERS had shown this to be the case on many occasions in the past. After the race, SAINTLY PARTNERS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was bleeding from the right nostril and was reported to have hit its head in the starting gates. An endoscopic examination was carried out. This showed the blood originated from the nose only and therefore SAINTLY PARTNERS was not officially declared to have bled. HIDDEN DRAGON and AMAZING VICTORY were sent for sampling.
