Racing Incident Report

GREENMORE was slow to begin. UNIVERSAL CHARGER, which was standing badly, began awkwardly. At the 1400 Metres, SPRINTER, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied and shifted out abruptly to avoid the heels of KEEN MARSHAL (D Dunn) which shifted in when being taken back in an endeavour to find cover. In the circumstances, D Dunn was reprimanded. In the Straight, TOP PRIZE raced ungenerously and shifted ground on a number of occasions. C Williams (MOMENTUM) explained the stable felt that the horse had not "put in" at its first start this season, therefore the intention was to be aggressive in the early stages today and hopefully have the horse positioned in the first three. He said accordingly he rode MOMENTUM along in the early stages, however, passing the 1400 Metres he elected to allow MOMENTUM to stride forward to avoid being caught three wide outside the lead. He said after MOMENTUM crossed to the fence in the lead, it was his intention to steady the horse, however, it immediately commenced to over-race, took charge and consequently raced harder than he had hoped. UNIVERSAL CHARGER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, UNIVERSAL CHARGER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were made. KEEN MARSHAL and SPRINTER were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted NASA PEARL was bleeding from the right nostril. An endoscopic examination was carried out. This showed the blood to originate from the nostril. Therefore NASA PEARL was deemed not to have bled.
