Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, MY FORTUNE began awkwardly, then shifted in abruptly and initially refused to take part in the race. MY FORTUNE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, MY FORTUNE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, MY FORTUNE will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On jumping, DASHING WINNER got its head up. FIRST AMONG EQUALS was slow to begin. SUPER BLITZ began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of GOODY. In the early stages, GOODY and INSIDE MAIL proved difficult to settle. At the 1200 Metres, O Doleuze (SUPER BLITZ) reached down with his left hand to adjust his foot in the stirrup. After the 1200 Metres, FIRST AMONG EQUALS, which had been ridden along, was steadied away from the heels of AMBITIOUS TYCOON which steadied in front. At the 700 Metres, FIRST AMONG EQUALS, which was laying out, was steadied away from the heels of INSIDE MAIL. Making the turn after the 500 Metres, TOP PRIZE hung out. Because of this, DASHING WINNER was initially carried wider, then itself hung out making the turn. In the early part of the Straight, INVERNESS hung out. For some distance approaching and passing the 300 Metres, AMBITIOUS TYCOON had difficulty obtaining clear running and to do so was shifted to the inside of INVERNESS. After the 300 Metres when placed under pressure, SHANGHAI KING got its head on the side and was inclined to lay out. After the 200 Metres, FIRST AMONG EQUALS was shifted to the inside of SUMMERLAND to continue going forward. Almost right on the winning post, SUMMERLAND was crowded for room between INSIDE MAIL and INVERNESS which was carried out by AMBITIOUS TYCOON (W C Marwing) which shifted out when not clear. W C Marwing was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount. A Marcus (SUMMERLAND) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of GOODY, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for A Marcus to be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 17 May 2004 on which day he may resume race riding (5 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin meeting next Wednesday 28 April 2004. FIRST AMONG EQUALS, MR COOL and AMBITIOUS TYCOON were sent for sampling.
