Racing Incident Report

CRUSADER OF GOLD was withdrawn on 28.11.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter GOOD TO GREAT (Apprentice H W Lai). Before being allowed to race again, CRUSADER OF GOLD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. As the gates opened, CHAMPION WINNER, which had been fractious in its stall, turned its head to the left and as a consequence lost ground and got further back than is usual. MY PRIDE began awkwardly. On jumping, MAKE YOU JEALOUS and FUJIAN PRINCE bumped. GLORIOUS RHYTHM began awkwardly, lost ground, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of BULLDOZER which shifted out. After this, BULLDOZER hung out and making the first turn was checked when awkwardly placed inside the heels of FUJIAN PRINCE. Then near the 800 Metres when proving difficult to settle, BULLDOZER clipped the heels of REAL SURPRISE and blundered. After this, BULLDOZER continued to hang out. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, GOOD TO GREAT got its head on the side, shifted out and bumped MOONGLOW. With the intention of being ridden with cover from a wide barrier, STRAWBERRY KISSES proved difficult to settle in the early stages and when left racing without cover was allowed to stride forward to race outside the lead near the 700 Metres. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, MAKE YOU JEALOUS was carried wider by BULLDOZER. On straightening, REAL SURPRISE was checked and shifted out to avoid the heels of MOONGLOW. After the 200 Metres, REAL SURPRISE, which was closing the race off strongly, made contact with GOLDEN STRIDE. After the 100 Metres, GOOD TO GREAT shifted out and made contact with STRAWBERRY KISSES which was giving ground. Apprentice H W Lai, the rider of GOOD TO GREAT, stopped riding and straightened. REAL SURPRISE, which was following STRAWBERRY KISSES, was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of that horse. MOONGLOW was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, MOONGLOW was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had a displacement of the soft palate. CHAMPION WINNER, GOOD TO GREAT and FUNTRAP were sent for sampling.
