Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, MUTUAL GAIN became fractious, reared, momentarily had its front legs caught over the barrier partition and then broke through riderless. When MUTUAL GAIN broke through, MEDIC LEGION also broke through. MEDIC LEGION was quickly reined in and returned to the Start where it was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. MUTUAL GAIN was quickly recaptured by the outrider, returned to the Start and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion the horse was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of MUTUAL GAIN. After this, TOUCH DOWN became fractious and attempted to break out underneath the front gates of its stall and ISLAND SPIRIT became fractious. Both horses were removed from their stalls and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion ISLAND SPIRIT was suitable to race and TOUCH DOWN was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of TOUCH DOWN. Before being allowed to race again, MUTUAL GAIN and TOUCH DOWN will both have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. MEDIC LEGION began awkwardly and shortly afterwards was crowded for room between TELECOM SUPERBOSS and SOUND OF SILENCE, both of which shifted ground. Shortly after the start, RIGHT CHOICE from a wide barrier was steadied and shifted across behind runners to a position closer to the rail. When placed under pressure after the 500 Metres, BUDDIES POWER hung in. Over about the final 200 Metres, FRIENDSHIP hung out and proved difficult to ride. For the major part of the race, TELECOM SUPERBOSS raced wide and without cover. In the run to the winning post, THE ONLY ONE and FRIENDSHIP raced tight. When questioned regarding the poor performance of SOUND OF SILENCE, O Doleuze said in his opinion the horse raced flat tonight after having a very hard run at its last start. He said SOUND OF SILENCE travelled comfortably during the race, however, in the Straight did not quicken in the manner it did at its last start. MEDIC LEGION, which finished tailed out, was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MEDIC LEGION after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of MEDIC LEGION was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, MEDIC LEGION will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SPOKESMAN and FRIENDSHIP were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 1 December 2005)
The Senior Veterinary Officer reported that SOUND OF SILENCE was this morning found to be dull and inappetent. Before being allowed to race again, SOUND OF SILENCE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
