Racing Incident Report

RICH FOR ALL and NOT QUITE PERFECT were slow to begin. TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped HAPPY GO LAGO which in turn shifted ground and bumped TREASURE RAIDERS. Shortly after the start, the left foot of Apprentice C K Tong (HAPPY GO LAGO) slipped from the stirrup. Because of this, Apprentice Tong became unbalanced before regaining the stirrup shortly afterwards. From a wide barrier, NEW TRIUMPH was steadied and taken across behind runners. After the 1000 Metres, TREASURE RAIDERS proved difficult to settle. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, FEEL-SO-GOOD was checked severely when crowded for room inside MAGI JOY which itself was checked severely as a result of being difficult to settle and improving into a position inside the heels of GENERAL DANSKE which shifted in slightly after initially being carried out by PERFECT TIME. NOT QUITE PERFECT, UNIQUE SPEED and TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND were checked in consequence. Although the incident was one of significance, the Stewards were satisfied the manner in which MAGI JOY was racing was the cause of the incident, therefore no action was taken. Near the 600 Metres, TREASURE RAIDERS got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of FIRST BABY. GENERAL DANSKE hung out making the Home Turn and then in the Straight on a number of occasions shifted ground. After the 200 Metres, PERFECT TIME was bumped by RICH FOR ALL which improved into a narrow run between that horse and GENERAL DANSKE. Also after the 200 Metres, FIRST BABY got its head on the side, hung in and bumped the hindquarters of GENERAL DANSKE. In the Straight, PERFECT TIME hung out. When questioned, E Saint-Martin (TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND) said at the horse's most recent start it travelled wide and without cover and consequently did not close the race off as hoped. He said today therefore the intention was to ensure the horse was ridden with cover. He said shortly after the start he endeavoured to obtain a position behind RICH FOR ALL which in his opinion was the best horse to follow, however, near the 1200 Metres he could not maintain that position as he was crowded for room between UNIQUE SPEED and TREASURE RAIDERS which when racing ungenerously shifted in. He said because of this he checked his mount, then shifted across to the fence and as a consequence was further back than intended. He said prior to straightening he commenced to ride TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND along hands and heels and the horse responded nicely. He said near the 300 Metres when shifting out in an endeavour to obtain clear running, he had to check to avoid the heels of THUNDER STORM which was giving ground, he then shifted back to the inside where running had presented itself and TRIUMPHANT DIAMOND closed the race off strongly. RICH FOR ALL and FEEL-SO-GOOD were sent for sampling. After the race, HAPPY GO LAGO was examined by the Veterinary Officer at the request of Trainer A S Cruz. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY GO LAGO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Also after the race, it was reported NOT QUITE PERFECT had lost its left hind plate.
