Racing Incident Report

MAGIC PRACTITIONER was withdrawn on 24.2.09 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inappetance) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ASALI VICTORY (M Chadwick). Before being allowed to race again, MAGIC PRACTITIONER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TELECOM LUCKY STAR was slow to begin, then began awkwardly and as a consequence lost a considerable amount of ground. On jumping, HEALTHY CONTENDER, which had been a little slow to begin, was bumped by DAILY DOUBLE and as a consequence lost ground. Also on jumping, MARBLE RED was bumped by SMART CODE. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, SUPER CHARGE failed to muster speed, then for a significant part of the race travelled wide and without cover. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, HEALTHY CONTENDER, which was hanging in, shifted in away from NAMJONG HUNTER as that horse shifted ground. Near the 900 Metres, HEALTHY CONTENDER, which continued to race greenly, became unbalanced and lost ground when awkwardly placed inside MARBLE RED which got its head on the side and shifted in. VICTORY MASCOT, which was following, was steadied in consequence. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, WINNER, which was reluctant to hold its position, was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of DAILY DOUBLE. In the early part of the Straight, NAMJONG HUNTER hung in and near the 200 Metres was bumped by DAILY DOUBLE which shifted in. Also in the early part of the Straight, TREASURE RAIDERS hung in. Between the 250 Metres and the 200 Metres, WINNER had difficulty obtaining clear running to the inside of ASALI VICTORY which shifted ground while hanging in. MARBLE RED, which was following, was held up and unable to improve. At the 200 Metres, MARBLE RED was steadied and shifted out to go forward. Following the race, D Whyte (WINNER) reported the horse had made an abnormal breathing noise during the run. WINNER and DAILY DOUBLE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WINNER and DAILY DOUBLE after the race did not show any significant findings. NAMJONG HUNTER, KINGSTON MARBLE and SUPER CHARGE were sent for sampling.
