7 12 CIRCUIT MIGHTY (G078) A Atzeni Near the 300 Metres became unbalanced when crowded between YOUNG HORIZON and MUSANG KING (K C Leung) which shifted to the outside of LUCKY BLESSING to secure clear running when there was not quite sufficient room. K C Leung was reprimanded. When questioned, A Atzeni stated that after being crowded near the 300 Metres his mount then lay in and away from YOUNG HORIZON and was reluctant to proceed to the inside of that runner and as a result had some difficulty obtaining clear running over the concluding stages.
11 13 LUCKY GOLD (G112) H Doyle Near the 1300 Metres got its head up when being shifted behind MAGNIFICENT NINE. After the event, H Doyle stated that after commencing only fairly her mount settled further back in the field and this was the principal reason for it not running on in the Home Straight. Near the 800 Metres was steadied when crowded by SPIRIT OF PEACE (B Avdulla) which shifted in when not quite clear. B Avdulla was advised to exercise more care. After the event, A Atzeni stated that when he was concerned there may be something amiss with his mount he eased it down from the event on the Home Turn. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of LUCKY STATEMENT, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY STATEMENT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

He said as a result WIN SPEED was unable to finish the race off in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight, K De Melo stated that his mount responded only fairly when placed under pressure and for this reason he did not ride THE AUSPICIOUS with full vigour for some distance approaching the 200 Metres. He said over the concluding stages THE AUSPICIOUS was held up for clear running between WIN SPEED and HARMONY N HOME and as a result he was unable to fully test his mount to the finish of the event. The Stewards advised Jockey De Melo that, wherever possible, he must ride his mounts with full vigour to ensure they obtain the best possible placing in the field.

14 6 DEVILDOM (H445) K De Melo After the event, K De Melo stated that after electing to go forward his mount was obliged to race very wide and without cover when unable to cross runners to its inside. He added after passing the winning post his mount made a respiratory noise. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of DEVILDOM, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, DEVILDOM will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

11 8 APOLAR FIGHTER (J169) K Teetan Shifted in shortly after the start, resulting in its rider having to correct his mount. After the event, K Teetan could offer no explanation for his mount’s disappointing performance. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
12 9 HAPPY HERO (G322) A Badel When questioned regarding his riding along the Back Straight and the reason he shifted away from the rail, A Badel stated that after riding his mount along in the early stages he was unable to hold a more forward position. He said when the early stages of the event was run inside of standard time he was reluctant to remain racing on the rail as he felt the leaders may give ground and for this reason he elected to shift out and race three wide following HAKKA RADIANCE. He added that this move was also influenced by the fact that HAPPY HERO has performed well when making an early move from the back of the field. He further stated that from the 800 Metres he shifted to the outside of HAKKA RADIANCE where his mount commenced to improve into the event behind DEVILDOM, but in the Home Straight HAPPY HERO did not respond to his riding. After considering his explanation, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Badel were reasonable in the circumstances. Trainer M Newnham confirmed the instructions issued and expressed satisfaction with the manner in which Jockey Badel rode the horse. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

10 14 SOARING BRONCO (J162) M F Poon After the event, M F Poon stated that after going forward and racing outside of CHATER GOLD he had expected that runner to continue to improve to the lead. He said when CHATER GOLD remained racing to the outside of CERVIN, SOARING BRONCO was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event and as a consequence finished the race off only fairly. Acting on veterinary advice that FREE PONY was not suitable to race, the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. The barrier manners of FREE PONY were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FREE PONY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After taking evidence from the Starter Mr A Speechley, Jockey K C Leung and Mr Lor, the Stewards established that EVERYONE’S STAR reared as the start was effected when being assisted by a starting gate handler. As the Stewards were satisfied that such occurrence occurred simultaneously to the start being effected, EVERYONE’S STAR was declared a runner. Before being allowed to race again, EVERYONE’S STAR will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial. Near the 200 Metres was steadied and shifted to the outside of DRAGON JOY to obtain clear running.

B Avdulla was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Wednesday, 5 March 2025 at Happy Valley. In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his excellent race riding record. Near the 250 Metres made contact with BUNDLE AWARD. Noted to have lost its left front plate after the race.
