Racing Incident Report

HELENE SUPER STAR was withdrawn on 15.2.14 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (substantial amount of mucus on scoping after track work). Before being allowed to race again, HELENE SUPER STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After entering the track, VANILLA, which was riderless at the time, broke loose from the stables assistant before galloping a short distance. VANILLA, which remained riderless, was escorted to the Start by the outrider after being recaptured. On arrival at the Start, VANILLA was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Mr C Fownes, the trainer of VANILLA, was spoken to regarding the requirement for horses to be able to be ridden to the Start. The Stewards advised Mr Fownes the raceday manners of VANILLA would be closely monitored in its future starts before deciding whether further action needs to be taken.
As the start was effected, FLAGSHIP SHINE bounded in the air and on landing blundered badly, resulting in FLAGSHIP SHINE losing ground.
WIRE TO WIRE was slow to begin.
From a wide barrier, VANILLA was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
VANILLA, which was commencing to give ground, was checked at the entrance to the Straight when crowded for room between FLAGSHIP SHINE and WIRE TO WIRE (W C Marwing) which shifted out. W C Marwing was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground.
In the early part of the Straight, TRAVEL BROTHER got its head on the side and lay in when giving ground.
The Stewards will interview Trainer S Woods on a date to be fixed regarding an incident which allegedly occurred when he was leading WIRE TO WIRE onto the track prior to this race.
DESIGNS ON ROME and ABLE FRIEND were sent for sampling.
