Racing Incident Report

On jumping, EXCEPTIONAL was checked when crowded for room by GOOD FIT which shifted in abruptly. CHOICE AND CHANCE began awkwardly and lost ground, then in the early stages when being restrained got its head up. At the 1600 Metres, EARL GREY was steadied away from the heels of PERPETUAL PLEASURE which shifted in. J Spencer (CITI CENTRE) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that at the 1400 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of RESOURCEFUL PRINCE, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. After considering the circumstances of this case, it was decided the appropriate penalty was for J Spencer's licence to ride in races be suspended until Sunday 16 March 2003 on which day he may resume race riding (4 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of this suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley meeting next Wednesday 26 February 2003. At the 1200 Metres, ADMIRAL, which was proving difficult to settle, shifted out from behind MASTER MAGIC and then was checked when disappointed for running between that horse and GOOD FIT. On entering the Home Straight, PERPETUAL PLEASURE was steadied when unable to obtain a clear run between CITI CENTRE and TIME OF RED WINE, both of which were giving ground. At the 300 Metres, PERPETUAL PLEASURE was again checked when unable to obtain clear running between CITI CENTRE and EMPIRE COURT. At the 200 Metres, PERPETUAL PLEASURE was then checked when disappointed for running between CITI CENTRE and EMPIRE COURT. As a consequence of these incidents, PERPETUAL PLEASURE was not properly tested out. In the early part of the Home Straight, GOOD FIT hung in, at the 400 Metres shifted ground and bumped LOK WAH SUCCESS. For a short distance approaching the 200 Metres, RESOURCEFUL PRINCE had difficulty obtaining clear running between SUCCESSFUL SPIRIT and CITI CENTRE. PERPETUAL PLEASURE, DESERT STORM and EARL GREY were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted PERPETUAL PLEASURE had sustained an abrasion to its left hind fetlock.
