Racing Incident Report

At about 11 am, the Club's Senior Racing Chemist, Dr T S M Wan, contacted Chief Stipendiary Steward J A Stier and reported a pre-race sample he had analysed indicated the presence of a prohibited substance. It was subsequently established the relevant sample was taken from CHEERS HONG KONG, a declared runner in this race. At about 1:25 pm, Dr Wan advised Mr Stier that following further analytical work being carried out on this sample, he was able to report it as being positive for the presence of the prohibited substance Isosorbide. Mr I W Allan, trainer of CHEERS HONG KONG, was interviewed. He was adamant the horse had not been subjected to any treatment which would return a positive result. He provided the Stewards with a detailed breakdown of all treatment to CHEERS HONG KONG. However, the Stewards in accordance with the powers they have under Rule 12(13) decided that as the sample provided by CHEERS HONG KONG was in the opinion of Dr Wan positive, the horse should be withdrawn. Accordingly CHEERS HONG KONG was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. A further urine sample under post race conditions was taken from CHEERS HONG KONG. The matter is now adjourned to a date to be fixed. IDOL was slow to begin and then on jumping began very awkwardly, as a consequence lost a considerable amount of ground. On jumping, RED PEPPER and ELEGANT FASHION brushed. In the early stages, CARACOLER proved difficult to settle and on a number of occasions after the 1600 Metres got its head up. Because of this after the 1400 Metres, D Dunn, its rider, allowed it to stride forward into the lead. Making the turn at the 1800 Metres, DR MORE, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up. At the 1500 Metres, HOUSEMASTER brushed the running rail and became unbalanced. Making the turn after the 800 Metres, DR MORE hung out and near the 600 Metres shifted ground and bumped the hindquarters of GOGGLES which as a result became unbalanced. In the early part of the Home Straight, ELEGANT FASHION was held up and unable to obtain clear running. To obtain a clear run near the 200 Metres, ELEGANT FASHION was steadied and shifted to the outside of OLYMPIC EXPRESS. In doing so, some inconvenience was caused to IDOL which was giving ground. PRECISION was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, PRECISION was examined by the Veterinary Officer. An endoscopic examination was carried out. This showed a significant amount of mucus in the trachea of the horse. Before PRECISION can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. OLYMPIC EXPRESS and DR MORE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted EQUATOR KID had lost its right front plate.
