Racing Incident Report

Prior to the running of Race 1, it was noted that HAR HAR CHARMS had shifted its right hind plate. This plate was reset. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. LUCKY DANSKE began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with ALWAYS WELCOME. From the outside barrier, SUPER FIGHTER was taken across behind runners. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, ELFHELM was steadied when momentarily crowded for room inside SUPER FIGHTER which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in slightly away from INSIDE MAIL. No action was taken. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, SUPER FIGHTER bumped the running rail. Near the 100 Metres, SUPER FIGHTER, which was closing the race off strongly, was checked when unable to improve between HAR HAR CHARMS and ALWAYS WELCOME. For some distance after this, SUPER FIGHTER continued to be held up for running and as such was not properly tested. Throughout the race, HAPPY GO LAGO travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, R Fradd (REUNION) said near the 500 Metres when travelling one horse away from the fence he was following SENSIBLE WAY. He said he believed SENSIBLE WAY would not carry him forward into the race and he therefore shifted to the fence to a position behind ALWAYS WELCOME. He said in his opinion REUNION was not travelling well enough for him to go around the outside of SENSIBLE WAY at this point. He said when travelling on the fence this allowed GRAND FIGHTER to improve around his outside. He said making the Home Turn REUNION became awkwardly placed close to the heels of ALWAYS WELCOME, he therefore on straightening allowed REUNION to shift out further to the outside of SENSIBLE WAY and to the inside of GRAND FIGHTER, however, shortly afterwards GRAND FIGHTER shifted in, causing him to momentarily steady his mount to avoid the heels of that runner. He said after this REUNION which was tonight racing first up from a let-up did not finish the race off. SENSIBLE WAY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SENSIBLE WAY after the race did not show any significant findings. HAR HAR CHARMS, GRAND FIGHTER and THE WORLD OF LOVE were sent for sampling.
