Racing Incident Report

Prior to the running of Race 1, it was noted that HAPPY KID had shifted its left front plate. This plate was reset. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. After arriving at the Start, C Brown (PROGRESSING TIMES) expressed concern over the action of the horse. PROGRESSING TIMES was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. NOBLE HEART was slow to begin. MAVERICK STAR began awkwardly, got its head up and lost ground. FREEBIRD began awkwardly and then despite being ridden along was slow to muster speed. From the outside barrier, AMSTERDAM was taken across behind runners. In the early stages, TOP SCORER proved difficult to settle. Prior to the 200 Metres, FREEBIRD got its head on the side, shifted in and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MAVERICK STAR. FREEBIRD then shifted out and bumped NOBLE HEART. At the 200 Metres, KONRAD THE GREAT was bumped by THUNDER MAN which when improving its position was carried in by MAVERICK STAR which shifted ground. After the 200 Metres, TOP SCORER was shifted to the outside of VICTORY MARBLE to continue going forward. Over the concluding stages, THUNDER MAN was not able to obtain clear running and therefore was not ridden out to the line. For the major part of the race, PROGRESSING TIMES travelled wide and without cover. D Whyte (AMSTERDAM) explained after the 700 Metres when he was racing on the rail behind DIAMOND ERA, he noticed THUNDER MAN which was racing forward and to the outside of DIAMOND ERA to be slapped down the shoulder with the whip to hold its position. He said further out was PROGRESSING TIMES which he did not believe would close the race off as it had been travelling wide, he therefore remained racing on the rail behind DIAMOND ERA until straightening as he believed this would ensure AMSTERDAM obtained uninterrupted running in the Straight which it ultimately did. DIAMOND ERA was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of DIAMOND ERA after the race did not show any significant findings. VICTORY MARBLE and TOP SCORER were sent for sampling.
