Racing Incident Report

MAGNIFIER was slow to begin. On jumping, GIFT was crowded for room between NORTHERN GOLD BALL and SUMMERLAND which shifted in. FLORAL DYNAMITE began awkwardly. After beginning well, SPLENDID PATROL, which was intended to be ridden with cover, was immediately steadied and taken back to race outside FLORAL DYNAMITE. In the early stages, SUMMERLAND and SATURN proved very difficult to settle and pulled their way into the lead. Near the 1300 Metres, MAGNIFIER became unbalanced when crowded for room inside NATIVE DREAM which was racing tight inside NORTHERN GOLD BALL which was carried in slightly by SPLENDID PATROL (A Delpech). In the circumstances, A Delpech was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care. For some distance after straightening, DARWIN was held up and unable to improve behind SUMMERLAND and SATURN, both of which were giving ground. For some distance after the 400 Metres, NATIVE DREAM was held up and unable to improve when awkwardly placed close to the heels of FLORAL DYNAMITE. A Delpech explained in the Straight he rode SPLENDID PATROL along hands and heels, then approaching the 200 Metres he pulled the whip in the right hand, however, the horse indicated to him that it would shift out, so he immediately changed the whip into the left hand. He said however SPLENDID PATROL this time indicated to him that it would shift in if hit with the whip, he therefore changed the whip back to the right hand, rode the horse along and after the 100 Metres when he did strike it with the whip, SPLENDID PATROL immediately shifted out, so he put the whip away and rode his mount out hands and heels. BULLISH LUCK and PALETTE NATURAL were sent for sampling.
