2 3 MASTER TRILLION (J442) 1 K C Leung K C Leung pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 300 Metres (see THE GOLDEN KNIGHT). Sent for sampling post-race.
1 4 THE GOLDEN KNIGHT (K341) 4 J Orman Jumped only fairly. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the view that an incident had occurred near the 300 Metres which cast sufficient doubt on whether MASTER TRILLION should be declared the winner. Subsequently J Orman, the rider of the second placegetter, THE GOLDEN KNIGHT, lodged a protest/objection against MASTER TRILLION being declared the winner alleging interference near the 300 Metres. After considering the evidence the Stewards found that THE GOLDEN KNIGHT had established clear running between GOLDEN FORTUNE and MASTER TRILLION approaching the 300 Metres. A short distance later MASTER TRILLION (K C Leung) then shifted out, resulting in THE GOLDEN KNIGHT having to be checked when crowded between GOLDEN FORTUNE and MASTER TRILLION. Having regard to the margin of a head between the two horses at the finish of the race and the manner in which THE GOLDEN KNIGHT finished the race off the Stewards were comfortably satisfied that had the interference not have occurred, THE GOLDEN KNIGHT would have finished in advance of MASTER TRILLION. On that basis the protest/objection was sustained and the placings amended to read No. 4, THE GOLDEN KNIGHT, 1st; No. 3, MASTER TRILLION, 2nd; No. 9, MEGA MASTERMIND, 3rd; and No. 13, FLYING AMANI, 4th. At a subsequent inquiry, K C Leung pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 300 Metres he allowed his mount to shift out when not clear of THE GOLDEN KNIGHT, resulting in THE GOLDEN KNIGHT having to be checked to avoid MASTER TRILLION. K C Leung was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Wednesday, 18 March 2026 at Happy Valley. In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 1 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his good race riding record. Sent for sampling post-race.

J Orman stated that his mount, which was having its second race start, raced greenly and throughout the early and middle stages he was obliged to make use of the horse to maintain its position. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
5 5 HEROIC VANGUARD (L180) 5 A Badel Shifted in at the start and was bumped. Between the 450 Metres and the 200 Metres was held up for clear running. When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight A Badel stated that after following MASTER LUCKY into the Home Straight he shifted to that runner’s outside with a view to obtaining clear running between BIGTIME GENERATION and CALL ME SUCCESS. He said when he was of the opinion there was not sufficient room to improve between BIGTIME GENERATION and CALL ME SUCCESS he then shifted out near the 300 Metres to the outside of CALL ME SUCCESS to attempt to obtain clear running but was unable to do so when YEE CHEONG GLORY maintained its position to his outside. He said as a consequence his mount was held up for clear running until near the 200 Metres.
7 6 LIVE WIRE (L142) 6 Z Purton For some distance near the 400 Metres was held up for clear running behind INCREDIBLE MOMENT. 8 11 STORMY KNIGHT (L062) 4 B Avdulla Bumped on jumping. When questioned B Avdulla stated that he was given no specific instructions where to settle but not to make use of the horse in the early stages as it has had a tendency to race keenly which had resulted in the sheepskin cheek pieces being removed from the horse for today’s race. He said this resulted in STORMY KNIGHT settling back in the field in the early stages, particularly with the early sectionals being run inside of standard time. He added that throughout the middle stages he was obliged to place some pressure on his mount to hold the position to the inside of POET’S REIGN and when the pace steadied after the 600 Metres he was able to improve his position to be racing behind the winner YEE CHEONG GLORY. He added in the early stages of the Home Straight he was reluctant to place full pressure on his mount as he had observed LIVE WIRE, which was racing in advance of him, having difficulty obtaining clear running and he was concerned if he placed his mount under pressure it would not have clear room to improve into. He said from the 300 Metres when he was satisfied there was an opportunity to improve he then placed STORMY KNIGHT under full pressure but it took some time to respond and from the 100 Metres commenced to make good ground before being held up over the concluding stages. Trainer D A Hayes confirmed the instructions and stated that he issued those instructions as the horse does have a tendency to race keenly in its races.
