12 3 ISLAND BREEZES (J479) 3 C L Chau (-2) Near the 900 Metres made contact with SPORTIC WARRIOR. Approaching the 800 Metres was steadied when crowded between SPORTIC WARRIOR and MODEST GENTLEMAN which, after being taken in by ROBOT KNIGHT (K Teetan), then shifted in and away from that runner. Whilst the Stewards acknowledged that K Teetan had corrected his mount, he was advised to exercise more care. C L Chau stated that after settling back in the field as expected his mount found it difficult to make up ground in the Home Straight which he attributed to the rail being in the C+3 position. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
8 4 NEBRASKAN (J304) 4 D B McMonagle Bumped at the start.
7 5 SPICY SPANGLE (J087) 6 H Bowman Jumped only fairly. R Kingscote (KING ALLOY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 200 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of SPICY SPANGLE, resulting in SPICY SPANGLE being crowded for room and having to be checked. After assessing the carelessness grade 1 and the consequences grade 2 and having regard to his very good record, the Stewards determined the appropriate penalty to be a reprimand. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
3 6 KING ALLOY (K099) 12 R Kingscote R Kingscote pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 200 Metres (see SPICY SPANGLE).
5 7 ROBOT KNIGHT (H464) 7 K Teetan Jumped awkwardly. Bumped with ALWAYS MY FOLKS shortly after the start due to both runners shifting ground. Taken out slightly near the 900 Metres and was bumped.
4 8 ALWAYS MY FOLKS (J345) 8 Z Purton Bumped with ROBOT KNIGHT shortly after the start due to both runners shifting ground. Near the 900 Metres was bumped by ROBOT KNIGHT when that runner was taken out slightly by SPICY SPANGLE. Near the 100 Metre was bumped. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
2 9 MACANESE MASTER (J532) 11 Y L Chung (-2) Near the 100 Metres made contact with ALWAYS MY FOLKS when taken out by KING ALLOY. Sent for sampling post-race.
6 10 MODEST GENTLEMAN (G352) 5 M Chadwick Bumped at the start. Momentarily crowded near the 800 Metres. Had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 400 Metres and the 300 Metres when being shifted to the outside of ELEGANT LIFE.
11 11 SPORTIC WARRIOR (J385) 2 H T Mo (-2) Bumped on jumping. Near the 900 Metres NEBRASKAN (D B McMonagle) shifted in when not quite clear, resulting in ISLAND BREEZES being taken in onto SPORTIC WARRIOR. As a consequence SPORTIC WARRIOR then shifted in and away from ISLAND BREEZES and became unbalanced when it made contact with HAPPYDEARHAPPYDEER. D B McMonagle was advised to ensure that he is two lengths clear when shifting ground. Crowded near the 800 Metres.
10 12 CAMP FIRE (J259) 10 M L Yeung When being shifted behind ELEGANT LIFE near the 900 Metres shifted in and was steadied to avoid that runner. M L Yeung stated that he was given no specific instructions but when a number of runners to his inside showed good pace and he was concerned he would have not obtained cover he elected to ride the horse in a conservative manner in the early stages to avoid covering additional ground.

3 2 THE HEIR (H459) 1 J Orman J Orman stated that from the inside barrier when his mount commenced well he was able to hold an on-pace position without having to apply pressure to his mount to do so. Sent for sampling post-race.

UR 5 SKY PHOENIX (K404) 4 K Teetan Prior to declaring weighed-in the Stewards gave consideration as to whether SKY PHOENIX had been denied a fair start. After taking evidence from Senior Starter Mr A Speechley it was established that as the start was effected SKY PHOENIX reared simultaneously, resulting in its rider K Teetan being dislodged and SKY PHOENIX completing the course riderless. As the incident occurred simultaneously to the start being effected the horse was declared a runner. Before being allowed to race again, SKY PHOENIX will be required to perform satisfactorily in consecutive barrier trials. K Teetan was subsequently examined by the Chief Medical Officer and passed fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements.

10 7 SUPREME FEELING (L130) 5 M L Yeung Jumped awkwardly and then blundered shortly after the start.
1 8 LUCKY MCQUEEN (K064) 10 M F Poon Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Sent for sampling post-race.
5 9 VIVA FIRECRACKER (L065) 8 M Chadwick Had its left hind plate adjusted in the holding stalls, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race. Jumped only fairly. Shifted out after travelling a short distance, was bumped and became unbalanced. In the Home Straight raced greenly when placed under pressure. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer”.
11 10 BLAZING BEAM (K103) 7 R Kingscote In the middle stages raced keenly when being shifted behind LEAN MASTER to obtain cover.
8 11 LEAN MASTER (H134) 3 H Bentley H Bentley reported that his mount anticipated the start and as a result commenced only fairly. He said approaching the first turn near the 1000 Metres LEAN MASTER commenced to race keenly and as a result got its head up when positioned close to the heels of FASHION LEGEND. He added LEAN MASTER then continued to race keenly throughout the middle stages of the event and refused to settle.

8 2 STELLAR SWIFT (J139) 2 H Bentley Bumped at the start. H Bentley stated that his mount came under pressure soon after entering the Home Straight and finished the race off only fairly thereafter. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” 'which had previously been reported.
5 3 HARMONY GALAXY (J266) 1 H Bowman Shifted out on jumping and made contact with STELLAR SWIFT.
7 4 FORTUNE STAR (K003) 12 L Ferraris From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 1300 Metres shifted in and made contact with the running rail. When being shifted out to avoid the running rail FORTUNE STAR made contact with STAR ELEGANCE. Near the 300 Metres was briefly held up for clear running behind THE AZURE.

6 6 THE AZURE (J227) 5 M F Poon Bumped at the start. Near the 1300 Metres was crowded and made contact with the running rail.
9 7 TO INFINITY (G277) 10 J Orman Near the 1300 Metres shifted in and made contact with WINNING DATA and then shifted out abruptly when being corrected by its rider.
2 8 STAR ELEGANCE (K536) 7 K C Leung Near the 1300 Metres was crowded. In the Home Straight lay in and proved difficult to ride out. Over the concluding stages K C Leung was unable to use his whip when positioned close to WINNING DATA. Near the 50 Metres STAR ELEGANCE and WINNING DATA made slight contact due to both runners shifting ground. K C Leung reported that his mount was slow to begin and as a consequence settled further back in the field than he had intended. Sent for sampling post-race.
3 9 WINNING DATA (H230) 8 K Teetan Near the 1300 Metres was crowded for room between THE AZURE and TO INFINITY which shifted in whilst being corrected by its rider J Orman. Near the 50 Metres WINNING DATA and STAR ELEGANCE made slight contact due to both runners shifting ground. Approaching the winning post raced tight between GOLDEN BRILLIANT and STAR ELEGANCE which shifted in when it continued to lay in.
11 10 WAVE GARDEN (K209) 4 R Kingscote Jumped awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and made contact with THE AZURE. Raced keenly when positioned outside the lead in the early stages.

Z Purton stated that his mount finished the race off only fairly in the Home Straight and, in his opinion, was reluctant to race in amongst other horses. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, BIENVENUE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Sent for sampling post-race.

After the race an endoscopic examination was conducted on IGOT at the request of Trainer C H Yip. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, IGOT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Z Purton stated that after being crowded shortly after the start his mount was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

11 9 FLASH STAR (K431) 12 R Kingscote Shifted in at the start and made contact with ALWAYS AHEAD. R Kingscote reported that in this incident his left foot was displaced from his stirrup for a short distance. Raced very wide and without cover for the majority of the event. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
2 10 FORERUNNER (G465) 8 A Badel Approaching the 150 Metres shifted to the inside of NORTHERN FIRE BALL to continue into clear running and as a result made contact with TEAM TEAM FOLKS. FORERUNNER then raced tight between NORTHERN FIRE BALL and TEAM TEAM FOLKS over the final 100 Metres and made contact with TEAM TEAM FOLKS on a number of occasions. Sent for sampling post-race.

He said shortly after the start his mount became unbalanced when crowded for room and as a consequence settled further back than intended. He added near the 1100 Metres his mount made contact with YOUNG ARROW due to both runners shifting ground and this resulted in WONDERSTAR then racing keenly throughout the early and middle stages and refusing to settle. Trainer Y S Tsui confirmed the instructions were to go forward and lead. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

C L Chau (PODIUM) was fined the sum of $20,000 in relation to using his whip in a manner where the hand holding the whip was above shoulder height on two occasions near the 200 Metres

K C Leung (CALIFORNIA WAVES) was reprimanded in relation to using his whip in a manner where the hand holding the whip was above shoulder height on one occasion near the 200 Metres
