1 4 RED BRICK WARRIOR (K580) 1 C L Chau (-2) Over the final 200 Metres lay out under pressure and as a result shifted out in the Home Straight when being corrected by C L Chau. When questioned regarding the horse leading Mr D Eustace stated that RED BRICK WARRIOR has a tendency to be slowly away in its races. He said he had worked with the starting gate team to assist the horse in commencing better from the starting gates and as a result the intention was to hold a more forward position than its previous race starts, but he did not expect the horse to show sufficient pace to lead the event. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, TELECOM POWER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Trainer D A Hayes confirmed that the intention was to hold a more forward position but after obtaining cover behind KOLACHI in the early stages ORIENTAL SURPRISE was obliged to settle further back in the field when SUPER SICARIO and TO INFINITY continued forward. Jockey Yeung was examined by the Chief Medical Officer and passed fit to fulfil his remaining engagements.

10 4 MATZDEN (L133) 7 A Atzeni Bumped on jumping. A Atzeni stated that his mount came under pressure near the 500 Metres as he endeavoured to improve to the outside of BITS SUPERSTAR. He added that when COUNTRY PRIDE then improved to his outside his mount did not respond thereafter before giving ground in the Home Straight. Trainer J Richards stated that the horse had pleased him leading into tonight’s race but could offer no explanation for the horse’s disappointing run. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of MATZDEN was considered disappointing as compared to its previous race starts. Before being allowed to race again, MATZDEN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

1 8 AKERMANIS GOLD (L031) 2 C L Chau (-2) Near the 1300 Metres SHOOTING TO TOP (Z Purton) shifted in when not sufficiently clear, resulting in AMAZING GAZE racing tight to the inside of SHOOTING TO TOP when SHOOTING TO TOP obtained a position three wide. When AMAZING GAZE was ridden to hold its position to the inside of SHOOTING TO TOP and when LUCKY TOGETHER shifted out slightly making the turn near the 1200 Metres, AKERMANIS GOLD was then checked when crowded between LUCKY TOGETHER and AMAZING GAZE. After considering all the evidence Jockey Purton was reprimanded and advised he must ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground. Trainer A S Cruz stated the horse had pleased him leading into tonight’s race and agreed with the explanation offered by Jockey Teetan. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. The performance of VIVA FIRECRACKER, a last start winner, was considered disappointing. Before being allowed to race again, VIVA FIRECRACKER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. 8 6 POWER KOEPP (E301) 7 K C Leung Prior to declaring weighed-in the Stewards gave consideration as to whether the horse had been afforded a fair start. After taking evidence from Jockey K C Leung, Trainer M Newnham and Starter Mr A Speechley the Stewards found that POWER KOEPP lowered its head just as the start was being effected, resulting in POWER KOEPP being slow to begin. As the Stewards were satisfied that the Starter could not have reasonably anticipated this occurrence the horse was declared a runner. A warning was placed on the barrier manners of POWER KOEPP. Near the 550 Metres was steadied to avoid PASS LINE. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

He said STAR RISE, which was having its first race start at Happy Valley, did not appreciate racing on the tight circuit.
