Approaching the 800 Metres was steadied when crowded between SPORTIC WARRIOR and MODEST GENTLEMAN which, after being taken in by ROBOT KNIGHT (K Teetan), then shifted in and away from that runner. Whilst the Stewards acknowledged that K Teetan had corrected his mount, he was advised to exercise more care. C L Chau stated that after settling back in the field as expected his mount found it difficult to make up ground in the Home Straight which he attributed to the rail being in the C+3 position. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
8 4 NEBRASKAN (J304) 4 D B McMonagle Bumped at the start.
7 5 SPICY SPANGLE (J087) 6 H Bowman Jumped only fairly. R Kingscote (KING ALLOY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 200 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of SPICY SPANGLE, resulting in SPICY SPANGLE being crowded for room and having to be checked. After assessing the carelessness grade 1 and the consequences grade 2 and having regard to his very good record, the Stewards determined the appropriate penalty to be a reprimand. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
3 6 KING ALLOY (K099) 12 R Kingscote R Kingscote pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 200 Metres (see SPICY SPANGLE).
5 7 ROBOT KNIGHT (H464) 7 K Teetan Jumped awkwardly. Bumped with ALWAYS MY FOLKS shortly after the start due to both runners shifting ground. Taken out slightly near the 900 Metres and was bumped.

Near the 900 Metres NEBRASKAN (D B McMonagle) shifted in when not quite clear, resulting in ISLAND BREEZES being taken in onto SPORTIC WARRIOR. As a consequence SPORTIC WARRIOR then shifted in and away from ISLAND BREEZES and became unbalanced when it made contact with HAPPYDEARHAPPYDEER. D B McMonagle was advised to ensure that he is two lengths clear when shifting ground. Crowded near the 800 Metres.
10 12 CAMP FIRE (J259) 10 M L Yeung When being shifted behind ELEGANT LIFE near the 900 Metres shifted in and was steadied to avoid that runner. M L Yeung stated that he was given no specific instructions but when a number of runners to his inside showed good pace and he was concerned he would have not obtained cover he elected to ride the horse in a conservative manner in the early stages to avoid covering additional ground.

UR 5 SKY PHOENIX (K404) 4 K Teetan Prior to declaring weighed-in the Stewards gave consideration as to whether SKY PHOENIX had been denied a fair start. After taking evidence from Senior Starter Mr A Speechley it was established that as the start was effected SKY PHOENIX reared simultaneously, resulting in its rider K Teetan being dislodged and SKY PHOENIX completing the course riderless. As the incident occurred simultaneously to the start being effected the horse was declared a runner. Before being allowed to race again, SKY PHOENIX will be required to perform satisfactorily in consecutive barrier trials. K Teetan was subsequently examined by the Chief Medical Officer and passed fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements.

Shifted out after travelling a short distance, was bumped and became unbalanced. In the Home Straight raced greenly when placed under pressure. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer”.
11 10 BLAZING BEAM (K103) 7 R Kingscote In the middle stages raced keenly when being shifted behind LEAN MASTER to obtain cover.
8 11 LEAN MASTER (H134) 3 H Bentley H Bentley reported that his mount anticipated the start and as a result commenced only fairly. He said approaching the first turn near the 1000 Metres LEAN MASTER commenced to race keenly and as a result got its head up when positioned close to the heels of FASHION LEGEND. He added LEAN MASTER then continued to race keenly throughout the middle stages of the event and refused to settle.
