When the Stewards were satisfied that the contact was due to both runners shifting ground and also CHIU CHOW GOLF had improved from behind SUPER LOVE they were satisfied there were not sufficient grounds to lodge a protest/objection. At a subsequent inquiry the Stewards inquired into the riding action of C Y Ho and the reason his left arm extended towards H Bentley when the two horses made contact near the 25 Metres. Jockey Ho stated that as he was in the process of using his whip it became entangled between the two horses and whilst his left arm did extend away from his body this was in an attempt to free his whip so that he could continue to use it. Jockey Bentley stated that in this incident he did not feel any contact between himself and Jockey Ho. After considering his evidence the Stewards accepted the explanation provided by Jockey Ho, however he was advised to ensure that, wherever possible, his arm remains within the confines of his body to avoid making contact with another rider. Jockey Chung stated that approaching the winning post he heard a call from a rider positioned to his inside and for this reason he stopped riding and placed pressure on his left rein to prevent FOUR STARS ALIGN from shifting in. After considering his evidence and viewing the patrol films the Stewards accepted the explanation provided by Jockey Chung, however, he was advised, wherever possible, to ensure that he fully rides his mounts out to the finish of the race.

When questioned A Atzeni stated that he expected GENEVA to settle back in the field and he had been instructed to hold the horse for a final run as GENEVA possess a short sprint. He said after holding a rearward position, entering the Home Straight he encouraged the horse forward but did not apply full pressure having regard to his instructions. He said his decision to do so was also influenced by the fact that TURQUOISE VELOCITY and VICTOR THE WINNER had gone quickly in front and he expected those horses to give ground in the Home Straight. He added that when he approached the 300 Metres he then placed GENEVA under full pressure following the favourite RISING FORCE into the event before the horse finished the race off well over the concluding stages. Trainer D J Hall confirmed the instructions, however, stated that, in his view, he would like to have seen the horse being placed under pressure sooner than it was on this occasion. After considering his explanation the Stewards advised Jockey Atzeni that, in their opinion, he should have placed more pressure on the horse in the early stages of the Home Straight to improve his position, particularly having regard to the margin he was behind the leaders. He was further advised in future he would be expected to ride his mounts with better judgement than he did on this occasion.

When questioned C Y Ho stated that after making contact with THUNDER BLAZE at the start his saddle shifted back, placing him at a disadvantage throughout the early and middle stages. He said for this reason he was not able to apply full pressure to THE BOOM BOX in an endeavour to improve its position at the tail of the field. He added that upon entering the Home Straight when he was satisfied THE BOOM BOX was balanced, whilst his saddle was still back, he was able to commence to ride the horse along where THE BOOM BOX finished the race off strongly in the Home Straight.
