In the early stages raced keenly and near the 1900 Metres got its head up when being steadied away from SHARPEN BRIGHT. Near the 500 Metres made contact with YOUNG BRAVO. When questioned C Y Ho stated that after improving to the outside of SHARPEN BRIGHT near the 700 Metres to commence a forward move his mount then hung in when VIVA TASTE improved to his outside. He said as a result MEGA FORCE became awkwardly placed on the heels of SHARPEN BRIGHT and was steadied when unable to hold its position between SHARPEN BRIGHT and VIVA TASTE.

After the 800 Metres STAR BROSE commenced to improve into a narrow run between SURE JOYFUL and SHARPEN BRIGHT when SHARPEN BRIGHT (M F Poon) shifted out slightly. Near the 600 Metres SHARPEN BRIGHT then shifted back in, resulting in STAR BROSE having to be checked when crowded between SURE JOYFUL and SHARPEN BRIGHT. M F Poon was advised in similar circumstances to exercise more care. Approaching the 300 Metres was hampered when taken wider by YIU CHEUNG VICTORY. Sent for sampling post-race.

K C Leung stated that his mount raced greenly and near the 900 Metres, when being crossed by SKY CAP (D B McMonagle), was steadied to avoid that runner when it shifted in when not quite clear. D B McMonagle was advised to exercise more care. VIVA BOSS was then obliged to race wide and without cover for the remainder of the event.

A Badel stated that his mount jumped only fairly, shifted in and made contact with GAMEPLAYER ELITE and then settled slightly further back than anticipated. He said in the Home Straight STAR PERFORMER did not respond to his riding. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right front leg and an endoscopic examination also showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, STAR PERFORMER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After the running of Race 3, the track classification was officially changed from "Good to Yielding” to "Good”. This change in the opinion of the Stewards should be recorded as being retrospective. As a consequence of this, the official results will show Race 3 being run on a track rated "Good”.
