M L Yeung stated that his mount became stirred up behind the starting gates due to the delay when TOP MAESTRO was withdrawn. He said his mount travelled only fairly during the race and under its top weight of 135 lbs found it difficult to finish the race off when under pressure in the Home Straight. Trainer K W Lui stated that the horse had pleased him leading into the race and concurred with the views of Jockey Yeung that the pre-race manners of the horse had affected its performance. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of TURQUOISE VELOCITY, a last start winner, was considered disappointing. Before being allowed to race again, TURQUOISE VELOCITY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. 3 6 LIVE WIRE (L142) 14 Z Purton Over the concluding stages had difficulty obtaining clear running when being shifted to the inside of LAHORE. When questioned regarding his riding from near the 300 Metres Z Purton stated that after being crossed by LAHORE in the early stages he elected to shift to that runner’s outside where he was positioned between LAHORE and the favourite TURQUOISE VELOCITY. He said near the 300 Metres he elected to shift in slightly to follow TURQUOISE VELOCITY as he felt that runner would provide him with the opportunity to improve into the event. He said when TURQUOISE VELOCITY shifted in slightly leaving the 300 Metres and did not respond to its rider’s efforts to improve, he then was required to steady and shift back to the outside of TURQUOISE VELOCITY to obtain clear running. After considering his explanation the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Purton were reasonable in the circumstances.

12 8 LUCKY SECRET (L073) 12 A Atzeni Bumped heavily at the start and became unbalanced.
9 9 SUPREME VOYAGER (L043) 13 J Orman Shortly after the start was bumped by LUCKY SECRET. Near the 300 Metres SIGHT HERMOSO improved to the outside of LIVE WIRE when that runner shifted in whilst following TURQUOISE VELOCITY. He added in the Home Straight NOTTHESILLYONE did not respond to his riding and, in his opinion, races better when able to dictate in the lead. Trainer M Newnham confirmed the instructions issued and concurred with the views of Jockey Ferraris that the horse is best suited when racing in front. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of NOTTHESILLYONE, a last start winner, was considered disappointing. 14 1 LUCKY XANDER (K407) 10 M F Poon Shifted out on jumping and bumped INVICTUS DRAGON. For some distance near the 1000 Metres raced keenly when attempting to obtain cover behind FIGHT TIME.
3 2 MR COOL (K184) 7 Z Purton Bumped shortly after the start. Briefly held up on the Home Turn. Sent for sampling post-race.
6 3 NORTHERN FIRE BALL (J488) 5 K C Leung No report.
2 4 FLOW WATER FLOW (K562) 4 H Bowman When questioned regarding his riding H Bowman stated that the intention was to hold a handy position behind the leaders from a favourable barrier and with the horse stepping up to 1400 Metres. He said FLOW WATER FLOW jumped reasonably well but in the early stages was positioned to the inside of DASHING MAURISON which was being ridden hard to hold a more forward position. He said when the pace of the event was being run inside of standard time he would have had to make use of his mount in the early stages to hold a more forward position and as he was concerned this would result in FLOW WATER FLOW racing keenly, particularly having regard to its inexperience and having its first race start at Sha Tin, he elected to allow DASHING MAURISON to cross his mount near the 1100 Metres. He said whilst he had not expected this would result in his mount settling at the rear of the field he felt this was the best option for the horse to allow it to race where comfortable and have a good opportunity to finish the race off in the Home Straight. He added throughout the middle stages FLOW WATER FLOW travelled well and after shifting to the outside upon entering the Home Straight the horse ran on well under riding. Trainer J Size stated that whilst he had expected FLOW WATER FLOW to hold a more forward position, given the horse is lightly raced and does not have an established racing pattern he was comfortable with Jockey Bowman’s decision to allow the horse to settle towards the rear of the field. After considering his explanation and taking into account the sectional times of the event and the relative inexperience of the horse, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Bowman were reasonable in the circumstances. Sent for sampling post-race.

10 8 MADE FOR LIFE (L005) 13 B Avdulla Jumped awkwardly. Near the 450 Metres was bumped by POSITIVE SMILE (M L Yeung) when that runner shifted to the outside of INVICTUS DRAGON to obtain clear running. As a result MADE FOR LIFE became unbalanced, shifted out and made contact with FIGHT TIME. M L Yeung was advised to exercise more care. B Avdulla reported that the instructions were to go forward. He said when his mount jumped awkwardly it did not show sufficient early speed to obtain a more forward position and in the Home Straight did not respond to his riding. He added, in his view, the horse may be better suited by being ridden in a more conservative manner in the early stages. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
7 9 VIVA FIRECRACKER (L065) 14 A Atzeni Jumped awkwardly.
9 10 INVICTUS DRAGON (K318) 11 C Y Ho Bumped on jumping. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
9 6 WINFIELD (K446) 4 L Hewitson Jumped awkwardly. Making the first turn near the 900 Metres lay in towards the running rail and became unbalanced. 4 2 WUNDERBAR (H411) 2 H Bowman When questioned H Bowman stated that with the expected fast pace of the event he had been requested to ride the horse in a conservative manner in the early stages to allow it to finish the race off strongly in the Home Straight. He added in accordance with those instructions, on jumping he elected to improve behind the leading division where his mount travelled well before finishing the race off strongly when placed under pressure in the Home Straight. Trainer J Size confirmed the instructions issued.

8 5 VICTOR THE WINNER (G404) 9 K C Leung No report.
2 6 COLOURFUL KING (K227) 4 Z Purton Jumped awkwardly. When questioned Z Purton stated that whilst the intention was to settle back in the field, in the early stages he had endeavoured to hold a position to the inside of VICTOR THE WINNER as he was concerned had he shifted to the outside rail he would have been following horses that would not provide him with the opportunity to improve into the race. He said in the early stages when positioned to the outside of WUNDERBAR that horse shifted out and when he was unable to prevent WUNDERBAR from taking his mount towards the outside rail he was obliged to race behind WE ARE HERO and CHATEAUNEUF. He said from the 500 Metres he was badly held up for clear running behind those runners until near the 200 Metres when he was able to secure a narrow run between CHATEAUNEUF and WE ARE HERO which shifted in. He added when WE ARE HERO then shifted back out COLOURFUL KING became unbalanced when crowded between CHATEAUNEUF and WE ARE HERO for some distance near the 150 Metres before finishing the race off well thereafter. After considering his explanation the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Purton were reasonable in the circumstances. Sent for sampling post-race.
9 7 LADY'S CHOICE (H155) 1 M F Poon Jumped only fairly.
10 8 BABY CRYSTAL (H081) 8 M L Yeung Noted to have lost its right front plate after the race. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A short distance later WE ARE HERO (Apprentice E C W Wong) was then shifted to the outside of BABY CRYSTAL to find clear running, resulting in COLOURFUL KING being crowded out onto CHATEAUNEUF which was steadied near the 150 Metres. Apprentice Wong was reprimanded and advised he must ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. 2. 1 January 2026 Sha Tin Racemeeting – Race 7 (309)

The Stewards today interviewed Jockeys J Orman, rider of THE LION KING, and L Ferraris, rider of GLORIASTAR, in relation to GLORIASTAR obtaining a position with cover approaching the first turn and then THE LION KING being able to improve three deep when GLORIASTAR shifted out on the Home Turn. J Orman stated that approaching the first turn when following KINGLY DEMEANOR he elected to allow his mount to shift to the rail when GLORIASTAR improved to his outside and applied some pressure to his mount. He said his decision to shift to the rail was also influenced by the fact that he was able to follow FRANTANCK and improve his position slightly as he did so and to provide his mount with an uninterrupted run. He added making the Home Turn he was able to shift to the outside of KINGLY DEMEANOR to obtain clear running as he felt GLORIASTAR was not travelling well enough to hold its position at that stage. L Ferraris stated that approaching the first turn he was looking to obtain cover behind KINGLY DEMEANOR and as a result turned his horse’s head in to endeavour to influence THE LION KING to the rail. He said after obtaining a position behind KINGLY DEMEANOR his mount came under pressure from the 500 Metres and he was unable to prevent THE LION KING from shifting out on the Home Turn.
