Racing Incident Report

CARE FREE PRINCE was slow to begin. DANEMAN HILL began awkwardly, shifted out, bumped the hindquarters of QI'S PET and was then checked. FAIRWAY FINDER was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was checked to avoid the heels of HONOURABLE which shifted out. On jumping, CHOICE AND CHANCE, which was to be ridden back in the field from the outside barrier, got its head up, then proved difficult to settle in the early stages. Also on jumping, CASH BABY was bumped by KAO AND MING which shifted out. After this, CASH BABY immediately commenced to hang out, shifted wider on the track despite the efforts of R Fradd, its rider, near the 900 Metres shifted across the running of QI'S PET which as a result was checked. When QI'S PET checked, CHOICE AND CHANCE, which was following, was steadied to avoid the heels of that horse. CASH BABY continued to hang out badly and raced very wide on the track. The performance of CASH BABY was considered unacceptable and in the circumstances of this case and having in mind CASH BABY had hung out throughout its only other race start, the Stewards ordered that CASH BABY perform satisfactorily in a series of official barrier trials around a bend before being permitted to race again. Near the 500 Metres, CHOICE AND CHANCE was steadied away from the heels of HONOURABLE. Shortly after straightening, ACE OF PACE was shifted to the outside of GOLDEN FARM into clear running. As a consequence of this, inconvenience was caused to KAO AND MING which was following. R Fradd (CASH BABY) pleaded guilty to a charge of having used his whip in an improper manner in that near the 250 Metres he did strike his mount in the vicinity of the head with his whip. For this breach, R Fradd was fined $20,000 [Stewards' Instruction 22(3)]. CASH BABY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, CASH BABY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had sustained an injury to its left eye. Before being allowed to race again, CASH BABY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Shortly after the 200 Metres, KAO AND MING was steadied away from the heels of ACE OF PACE after shifting in away from WYNDAM PLENTY which itself shifted ground. Near the 100 Metres, KAO AND MING was momentarily crowded for room between ACE OF PACE and WYNDAM PLENTY, both of which shifted ground. KAO AND MING, MAJOR BEE and GOLDEN FARM were sent for sampling.
