Racing Incident Report

SILVERBIRD was slow to begin. WINNING PARADE began awkwardly and was then bumped by DRAGON STRIDE which shifted out. SWEETIE and GALLANT HORSE were slow to begin. Near the 1000 Metres, DRAGON STRIDE was carried wider by SHINING GEM. Shortly after the 600 Metres, MR PRESIDENT broke down and was eased out of the race. When MR PRESIDENT broke down, some inconvenience was caused to SILVERBIRD and STAR OF NORTHERN which were steadied and shifted wider and MASTER ABLE which was checked and shifted wider. Near the 200 Metres, STAR OF NORTHERN, which was hanging out, shifted out and bumped MASTER ABLE. For the major part of the race, WINNING PARADE raced wide and without cover. Throughout the race, GALLANT HORSE hung out and at times hung out badly. The performance of GALLANT HORSE was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GALLANT HORSE must perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. G Schofield (COULDN'T CARE LESS) said he had been instructed to ride the horse somewhere around midfield, however, he was to ensure he obtained cover. He said COULDN'T CARE LESS began well and he anticipated WINNING PARADE which had drawn to his inside would go forward, he therefore elected to shift to a position behind that horse. He said when WINNING PARADE did not travel as forward as he had anticipated, he consequently raced a little further back than he had hoped. Mr C S Shum, trainer of COULDN'T CARE LESS, explained at the horse's most recent start at Happy Valley from the outside barrier in a race where it was not felt there was great pace it had been decided to go forward and endeavour to lead to avoid being caught wide. He said the horse on that occasion performed poorly and was subsequently found to be lame. He said today from a better draw he had hoped to have the horse ridden somewhere around midfield but felt it was important to obtain cover to allow the horse the opportunity to close off. SHINING GEM, SILVERBIRD and DRAGON STRIDE were sent for sampling.
