Racing Incident Report

CITY GLORY was a little slow to begin, then shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between MOUNTAIN TREASURE and FIRST ON which began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly. On jumping, ARIGATO and MILLENNIUM SUPREME bumped. Then shortly afterwards, ARIGATO became unbalanced when bumped by FAIRWAY FINDER which shifted out abruptly. When the gates opened, SILLY BOY bounded in the air and lost ground. Apprentice H W Lai (JOIN SUCCESS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of ARIGATO, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. Crowding was also caused on the inside of ARIGATO to FAIRWAY FINDER. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for Apprentice Lai's licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to expire on Thursday 19 May 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (4 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Wednesday 4 May 2005. Near the 1000 Metres, FAIRWAY FINDER was steadied away from the heels of MILLENNIUM SUPREME. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, MOUNTAIN TREASURE was steadied to avoid the heels of SILLY BOY which shifted in when barely clear. After this, MOUNTAIN TREASURE raced wide and without cover. Near the 700 Metres, COSMO STAR was steadied away from the heels of MILLENNIUM SUPREME. Making the Home Turn, WINNING EMPEROR was carried wider by FAIRWAY FINDER which shifted out. After the 400 Metres, CITY GLORY became unbalanced when disappointed for running between MILLENNIUM SUPREME and MOUNTAIN TREASURE which was giving ground. In the Straight, KIWI DASH hung in, after the 200 Metres hung in badly, was reluctant to improve into a narrow run between ELVIS and PAY-DAY and was not ridden right out to the end of the race when awkwardly placed inside the heels of PAY-DAY and outside the heels of ELVIS which at this time drifted out. At the 100 Metres, CITY GLORY, which was closing the race off, was steadied to avoid the heels of WINNING EMPEROR which shifted in. Over the concluding stages, CARE FREE PRINCE hung in and proved difficult to ride. MOUNTAIN TREASURE, which finished tailed out, was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, MOUNTAIN TREASURE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, MOUNTAIN TREASURE will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. O Doleuze (FAIRWAY FINDER) said today the intention was again to ride the horse quietly in the early stages as when being ridden in this manner at its last start it closed the race off strongly. He said FAIRWAY FINDER did not travel well at any stage of today's race and when he shifted the horse to the outside on straightening he was hoping it might quicken, however, it failed to respond to his riding and gave ground. FAIRWAY FINDER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, FAIRWAY FINDER was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. The performance of FAIRWAY FINDER was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FAIRWAY FINDER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SILLY BOY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SILLY BOY after the race did not show any significant findings. COSMO STAR, PAY-DAY and ELVIS were sent for sampling.
