Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Parade ring, RED WINE HONEY was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon at the request of Trainer C S Shum who said the horse appeared somewhat stiff in its action. Following the examination, the Veterinary Surgeon said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. K S Yu (CENAMIRA) was fined $2,000 for negligence in that he initially weighed out for this race with only one stirrup iron attached to his saddle [Rule 89(1)]. CARE FREE PRINCE and RED WINE HONEY were slow to begin. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, PRESENT TREASURE when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SMART CHAMPION shifted out, causing inconvenience to CENAMIRA and ETERNAL DRAGON which were hampered and carried wider on the track. After this, PRESENT TREASURE raced wide and without cover. At the 600 Metres, JUBILOSO was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CARE FREE PRINCE. Prior to straightening, JUBILOSO, which had been shifting towards the outside of CENAMIRA, was steadied and shifted in when RED WINE HONEY improved around the outside, resulting in JUBILOSO being awkwardly placed close to the heels of CENAMIRA. Making the Home Turn, PRESENT TREASURE hung out. Passing the 400 Metres, SIMPLY THE BEST had difficulty improving when racing tight inside PERSEVERANCE, then over about the final 150 Metres was not ridden out when unable to obtain clear running between GOT IT GOOD which was giving ground and CARE FREE PRINCE. Because of this, SIMPLY THE BEST was not tested. Near the 200 Metres, CARE FREE PRINCE was steadied and shifted in to avoid the heels of TIMBER CITY which was giving ground. Then over the concluding stages, CARE FREE PRINCE hung in. Over about the final 200 Metres, JUBILOSO, which had been closing the race off strongly, was continually steadied when unable to obtain clear running initially between PERSEVERANCE and PRESENT TREASURE and then between PRESENT TREASURE and SMART CHAMPION. Because of this, JUBILOSO was not tested. K S Yu explained near the 1200 Metres he elected to steady his mount in an attempt to find cover behind PRESENT TREASURE, however, as he did this QUEST FOR LOVE improved on his inside which prevented him from shifting in. When questioned regarding the poor performance of QUEST FOR LOVE, B Prebble said in his opinion the horse raced somewhat flat today. He said QUEST FOR LOVE did travel further forward in the run, however, the horse had drawn more favourably, began better than it has previously and was able to obtain a position without being pressured to do so. He said in his opinion QUEST FOR LOVE did not appreciate the firmness of today's track and pointed out when successful last start it raced at night and the track in his opinion was more forgiving. QUEST FOR LOVE and CENAMIRA were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of QUEST FOR LOVE after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, CENAMIRA was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, CENAMIRA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. RELY ON ME and PERSEVERANCE were sent for sampling.
