Racing Incident Report
AMBITIOUS MARJU, LORD CAIRNS and DANZIGMOUNTAIN were slow to begin. SPOKESMAN began awkwardly. Near the 1200 Metres, DEVON FLAIR was steadied away from the heels of SPY KING which was carried in by UNIVERSAL PIONEER (Apprentice C W Wong). Apprentice Wong was advised to exercise greater care. In the early stages, LORD CAIRNS and GANBARIA both proved difficult to settle and on a number of occasions got their heads up. On straightening, SPOKESMAN was carried wider by CARE FREE PRINCE which at this time shifted to the outside of EAST OCEAN DRAGON to improve. After the 400 Metres, GANBARIA was checked when disappointed for running between PERSEVERANCE which shifted in and DEVON FLAIR which shifted out. At the 250 Metres, CARE FREE PRINCE was steadied when crowded for room between SPOKESMAN which shifted in and EAST OCEAN DRAGON which was carried out slightly by GO GO VICTORY which at this time got its head on the side and shifted ground. Over the concluding stages, CARE FREE PRINCE hung in and proved difficult to ride. Throughout the race, PRESENT TREASURE travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding his shifting out on straightening, Apprentice C K Tong (CARE FREE PRINCE) said he had been instructed to ensure the horse had clear running in the Straight. He said after travelling in a rearward position, making the Home Turn he felt to carry out his instructions he should shift to the outside of EAST OCEAN DRAGON. After viewing the video, Apprentice Tong conceded there was an opportunity for him to improve his position inside EAST OCEAN DRAGON. Apprentice Tong was told his riding in this section of the race had come under notice and he should ensure to avail himself of favourable opportunities to improve his position where circumstances permit. GO GO VICTORY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GO GO VICTORY after the race did not show any significant findings. LORD CAIRNS, UNIVERSAL PIONEER and SPY KING were sent for sampling.
